Hi everyone,
My daughter got another email from Tisch today, saying that it’s very possible that she would come off the waitlist soon. They want her to respond by May 31st at noon- letting them know 100% yay or nay if she wants to go to NYU.
She’s already committed to another school, but NYU was always her dream school. No mention of studio assignment in the email of course.
What to do?? Hsas anyone been through this situation? We need some adcvie STAT!

The basic issue is…would she still want to go to NYU if accepted? If so, and you do say it had been her dream school, then she should tell them “yay”…she would like to attend.

And not that I advocate being dishonest, but truly the real commitment is when she is truly accepted and you have to put down the deposit. In other words, saying “yay” now won’t hold her to it without the acceptance and deposit. That said, my inclination is to only say “yay” if indeed she is inclined to likely attend.

If she had been accepted to NYU/Tisch by April 1, would she have chosen to go? If so, then has anything changed? I realize it may be unexpected, but it is in a good way, right?

If she is at least 90% sure she will attend NYU if accepted, why not say “yay?” Then she will likely attend. Still, you haven’t made a monetary commitment until the school proffers an acceptance and gives a deadline of a deposit, which is when you are truly committing. Once you really put down a deposit, you should be fully committed. My guess is that you won’t be given a lot of time between the “we can offer you a spot off of the wait list” until the “deposit to hold the spot is due.” So, it would be best to think it through and be nearly 100% committed now, but realize for now it is a verbal commitment and not a monetary one and so you could still back out. I do not advocate backing out once you hold the spot with the deposit, however. AND as soon as you do that, IF you do it, let the other school where she had deposited to enroll know (you will lose that deposit, however) so that they an offer her spot to someone off their wait list.

Keep in mind that the school is now finding that they may have some open spots and they are trying to ascertain who on their wait list that they want to make offers to who truly is likely to come if admitted so that they don’t waste time admitting kids who won’t attend and having to drag the process out …because the longer they have to drag out filling those spots, the more kids are going to be attached to their current plans of where they are going to attend. The school wants to wrap this up and so are putting feelers out to those they are interested in offering spots to in order to find out the likelihood if these applicants will attend if offered a spot.

Thanks, soozievt- I was hoping you’d see my post. I know you and your daughter have a long history with NYU, and I respect your opinion. My daughter has some serious thinking to do in the next 36 hours! Ill let you know how it all works out!

I also received an interest email on the 28th. I also applied to Tisch. I still haven’t received an official acceptance and my FA on Albert hasn’t changed to “2015: Award Access not available”. Trying to be patient… is your D in the same situation or has anything changed for her?

whoops sorry 2014*

No official acceptance. She did reply to the email, saying that she was still very interested. I hope they don’t drag this process out!! We thought we were done with all this- it’s like some weird throwback to April!!

MTdreamer200, have you already committed to another school?

Yes I also replied that I would “absolutely attend if my studio placement is satisfactory”. I have committed to Boston Conservatory for MT. Yet, NYU has always been my dream school

Let’s hope they get back to us soon!! My daughter committed to American for BA MT, but she also plans to double major in psychology, and AU and NYU are the only schools that could accommodate that.

Both are awesome options. Do you know if this interest email is a sure sign of acceptance or just a good sign?

I don’t know for sure… my daughter also responded that it would depend on which studio she got.

MTdreamer200- my daughter got her acceptance emqil today!! Did you hear anything??

^^ Congrats to your daughter! Guess it is decision time AGAIN…but a happy spot to be in.

Yes, indeed, soozievt! Tears of joy were in abundance at my house today! No studio assignment, however. She called the Drama department today and they said that should come by the end of the week. She has until June 16th to give them her decision. We’re planning a trip up to NYC on Friday (we live in the DC area) to take a general tour of the school, as we’ve only toured the Drama department.

YES I got my acceptance yesterday also! I emailed Tisch Drama dept. this morning and they told me to expect an email this Friday the 6th from Chris Andersson about studio placement
I am 90% sure I will go, I just need to research whatever studio I am placed in to in greater detail if it is not NSB.

Sounds like you and my daughter are in the same boat! Friday can’t come fast enough, right? Keep in touch on CC- it helps to know someone else is going through this!!

MTDreamer, a hearty congrats to you as well!

Nice when dreams come true.

My daughter got her studio placement!!! She got New Studio on Broadway! Have you heard yet, MTDreamer?

Yes I also got NSB for MT! Very happy and committing today:)
