I auditioned on Jan 19 in NYC for NYU Tisch New Studio on Broadway. Anybody know when we will be hearing back and how? I’ve heard late March/Early April, but I’m not sure if that’s true.

Yes, it’s true.

you will first hear by email from NYU, and it will say “congratulations from NYU!” but will say nothing about Tisch. The first communication my D got from Tisch was a snail mail letter congratulating her, that came about a week later. The studio assignment came two to three weeks after the initial decision announcement (which last year was March 25th).

Actually, my D (and alot of NYU acceptees; maybe all) got a cryptic email on March 19th saying “Book your travel plans for NYC in April.” It was a reminder about the accepted students day, but didn’t tell the respondents they were accepted. My D assumed this was just sent to all applicants, so ignored it and didn’t tell me; I knew from following CC that these emails had been sent, and I would have known what it was! (Kids were calling the school and asking if this email meant they were in.)

How many accepted to each studio?

also, last year studio assignments were emailed on April 7th.

Has anyone heard yet? Or is it STILL too soon?! :)

Yeah has anyone heard??

My daughter just received her admittance by email into Tisch for MT!

Hey thankful6! Congrats! But studio assignments haven’t been released yet. She was admitted to Tisch DRAMA but you won’t know which studio (acting or Musical Theatre) for a little while (unless she said that acting wouldn’t be a consideration).

Thanks for the info. Hoping it is for MT, but either way it is exciting!

My son got an email today admitting him to Tisch!! When will he hear about studio assignments? Any guesses?

CONGRATS! Last year the studio assignment email came April 7.

How do people afford NYU? I had a feeling the F.A. would be bad but not THAT bad. Have single mom with single income and expecting to take about $50K in loans! How do people do it…or justify it…so torn. Walking out after 4 years with $200K in loans in this particular career choice…

Hello… I am auditioning April 10 as a transfer applicant, and I was wondering when you think I will hear back from NYU with a decision. Thanks!

No matter how much you or your kid wants to go to Tisch, do NOT take on $200K in loans, especially for a student majoring in a performing art. Do NOT do it, even if Tisch is his or her dream school. It is not worth it! (Yes, my D is a MT major at Tisch drama right now, but we fortunately did not have to take out massive loans to send her through. It’s not been easy, but we’ve done it without humongous loans.) Where you go to school is not nearly as important as what you learn and what you do with what you learn. I think the world of my kid’s school, but no school in the world (not even Juilliard, LOL) is worth that kind of debt. As one of my kid’s high school acting teachers said to one young person “The best gift you can give an actor is graduating without any loans or debts.”

What year is your D in the program? My D just got accepted but we don’t know the studio yet. She has 3 good options she needs to weigh obviously with Tisch being the most expensive. I may PM you to get more info if that’s ok?

I agree with NMR. I think it’s absolute insanity to graduate from any major with $200,000 in debt but for theatre, it will kill any hope of a career for a new grad. There is no way, and I mean NO way, for a new grad to make those monthly loan payments even if they are cast in a Broadway show the day after they graduate, which is a hypothetical that will never happen. Even half of that amount of debt is going to be impossible to handle. Don’t do it!
