I’m a prospective student from the UK hoping to apply ED1 to NYUAD in 2016/2017!
I haven’t seen any discussions here for the class of 2021 and so if you’ve stumbled across this thread and you’re in a similar situation, feel free to reply and share your experiences! I’d love to know what you think of the place and the admissions process as a whole!
Hi! I’m applying to NYUAD ED1 this year!
I’m from the british school and so have not done any SATs or ACTs. I’ve done AS levels and now I’m doing A levels.
How far are you in terms of common app for ED1?
It’s great to hear you got in! I’ve been in love with the university for the last two years and I’ve visited a handful of times whenever I’m on holiday in AD. Do you mind talking us through your application process, your stats, EC’s, student experience etc?
Hello! mightychondria here… sorry for the late reply but I’ve been having trouble accessing my account, so please re-send any messages with questions to this new account (mightychondria1)
It’s hard to say what I think made my application stronger than others, since honestly there are so many factors that go into it. I don’t think knowing my stats will help you much since there’s such a range of different backgrounds, but I had a 35 ACT, 2260 SAT, 5’s on 10 AP Exams, 800 SAT Spanish, 790 SAT Math 2, 780 SAT Biology. Ranked 3rd in my class of 380, 4.3 weighted GPA, 3.9 unweighted. Extracurriculars were nothing extraordinary but still showed leadership- started my high school academic decathlon team, taught piano lessons, math tutor, etc. I think that my essays showed my passions and that I understood what NYUAD is all about and how I would fit there.
My biggest advice for your essays would be to understand what kind of student NYUAD is looking for, since it’s such a unique place. It’s essentially a tiny version of a completely globalized society, with students from over 100 countries and people constantly traveling. You really need to have stellar academics, but you also need to have something that shows that you are globally aware and interested in interdisciplinary study- combining and exploring different topics that you are curious about just for the sake of learning.
Why I chose to study at NYUAD: It’s an incredible, high-achieving community with a diverse but tight-knit group of students. I have conversations and classes with people from all over the world on a daily basis. Financial aid is extremely generous, and the opportunities for travel are unlike any other place. Interdisciplinary study- I love that I can study engineering but still take classes in music and social sciences. There are so many resources available to students, and the small class sizes allow you to get to know your professors personally. It is a truly unique college experience and I wanted to get out of the “bubble” of my hometown- the culture of the U.A.E. is so fascinating to me. NYUAD combines the resources of a major research university with the feel of a small liberal arts college.
I visited last christmas and over summer and couldn’t agree more! It’s a completely new and unique educational experience! I’m just waiting in eager anticipation for the ED1 deadline…
I’m only applying to NYUAD and I’m putting my heart and soul into my common app
I have a friend who graduated this year from NYUAD and she loved everything about the university. I visited the campus as well and it was beyond my expectation. I would LOVE to study in NYUAD- I hope we can get accepted as the class of 2021!!
@ossy17 I’m applying from the UK and so I’m not sure how relevant my stats are to you, but I’m applying with 10A* at GCSE and a prediction of 4A* in Physics, Chemistry, Maths and General Studies at A-Level. I’ve also got a bunch of mixed extracurriculars and my two essays which discuss engineering related projects I’ve worked on but that’s pretty much it! I’ve also mentioned a number of engineering related scholarships and awards!
@qutaibaaa You possess really good credentials.
Btw, I’m from Pakistan and will be applying with 6As and 3As in GCE O levels and prediction of 3As, 1A in Math, Physics, Chemistry and Economics. I have also given SAT Subject Tests with 790 Math2, 780 Physics and 800 Chemistry. I do have a basket of ECA’s related to science/engineering coupled with sports and leadership experiences as well. I really hope we get invited to CW.
@ossy17 I’m studying at a british school so we follow the british curriculum but I have 10As 1A for GCSEs and 4As for my AS-level and 3As and 1A are finalised predictions for A-Levels. I took Economics Maths Further Maths and Biology for AS and now I’m taking Maths Further Maths Biology and EPQ. Plus I’ve done biology olympiad and UKMT few years ago and few other activities like DofE, orchestra, DELF, scholarships and national competition.
