D got in, 15K scholarship and 4K grant so 19K total merit. She really liked Oberlin and would love to attend but COA still too high and she got a full tuition scholarship at another LAC. Good Luck everyone!
Accepted. with 3.7 UWGPA and 4.0 WGPA and SAT 2000, did interview, not visited and show some interest.
D waitlisted, very surprised. Her stats are will within the top 75th %, and she interviewed. Oh well. Congratulations to those accepted.
Rejected! But I don’t mind! heard back from Lafayette with a good offer!
Rejected
Guess I was wrong. The presto portal updated with additional award info and she was offered the John F. Oberlin scholarship for $23K/yr, plus Oberlin College Grant for $4K/yr. Still not really interested, but am curious what the grant is. Is that something need based that could go away or is that just a 2nd scholarship?
I got accepted with a $25K/yr John F Oberlin scholarship and $4K/year grant. GPA at 3.98 (college prep school, no weighted grades) and 35 on my ACT. I also take PSEO, so that may have affected things. Given what other people have posted about their grades and stats, I’m guessing Oberlin puts a lot of consideration into essays? I also did visit, as well as interview, as well as do an overnight with a friend who currently goes there. So maybe it was my showed interest.
Congrats @zozee9 ! My D waitlisted - her 4th! In any case, her top choice still best choice and a nice merit package. From reading this thread, it looks like Oberlin had a lot of hard choices.
@zozee9 … Think you are correct about essay. S accepted but no merit. 3.87 Pvt. HS… Only 2000 SAT but 780 verbal. 680 subject test. Impressive extracurricular with a few creativity awards… A good mix is probably what helped…He did visit and interviewed.
Does anyone have a link to the accepted student facebook group or know how to find it? Thanks!
S Waitlisted… Not sure if he will accept a spot on the wait list or not. He is pretty happy with the choices he has and doesn’t want to keep waiting. Has really embraced the “Love the school and that loves you” mentality. Without a visit, he couldn’t commit to school anyway. Had he been accepted, he would have gone out in April. He did an alumni interview - stats: 3.81/4.2, 2240, 32. Good recs, good (but not exceptional) ecs. Congratulations to all accepted!
Here’s the Class of 2020 Facebook group: https://www.facebook.com/groups/oberlin2020/
Accepted to both the College and Conservatory with an amazing financial aid package!!!
Has anyone else had trouble accessing presto? I was accepted but can’t get my aid info. Can anyone help? It says ‘access denied’
what exactly is PRESTO anyway?
It is the portal for students to access everything they need as a student, including financial aid, payments etc
@choirsandstages, yes, my son was admitted without a visit and also was offered a John Frederic Oberlin scholarship. He then visited during an accepted student days thing to help him make up his mind, and is now in his first year there.
Thank you @Massmomm ; it obviously works for some. Congrats!!
I think the whole admissions thing is such a puzzle! My son had much higher stats than a girl in his class, and yet she was accepted to Cornell while he was rejected from Brown (his top choice.)
Got envelope today with John Frederic Oberlin Merit aid …but still COA is high.
