@applicant99 did you check your junk/spam folder? because mine went to those folders for some reason. but if you already did, you should definitely call admissions as soon as possible to see what is going on. good luck!

Does anyone have any idea what time they’ll release?

@HanValen97 they answered a similar question on the admissions tumblr page: “We don’t have a time set just yet for the notifications, but are anticipating an afternoon/early evening release. We try not to release decisions during the school day itself, but considering the time zones of all of our admitted students, across the country and across the world, that’s not completely possible. Look out for the email sometime in the afternoon/evening EST on Friday, December 19th!”

Just noticed they changed the status page and took away the counsellor info. Wonder why that is…

Looks like oberlin never looked at my son’s art supplement so he probably isn’t in the set of kids that that were maybes or they’d have taken a peek. Since it’s a reach for him, I’m thinking maybe his app went right to the do-not-admit pile. I guess we’ll know soon enough.

good luck to all!

Decisions are posted - click status update to find out if you, or your son or daughter is admitted!

I am accepted!!!

I love my life.

Good luck to all of you.

I guess his app went right to the “admit pile” and they didn’t need to see his supplement! we’re thrilled.

ACCEPTED!!! Ohmygod this is honestly the best day OF MY LIFE

Congrats to all of the admittees! I hope you all get as much out of going there as I did.

To the people who got in, would you please post your stats? Im curious haha

I got accepted toooo! :D

so far, so good, for a CC clean sweep!

ACCEPTED along with 1 out of the 3 other people that applied!

Stats for people who are curious…

**Decision: Accepted **

Objective:
[ul]
[] SAT I (breakdown): 1800 didn’t send
[] ACT (breakdown): 31 (english 34, math 27, reading 30, science 32) The first time I took it I got a 33 on reading so superscored I had a 32 but Oberlin doesn’t superscore ACT. I sent both scores anyway.
[] SAT II: didn’t take
[] Unweighted GPA: 3.86 or so, my school only does weighted
[] Weighted GPA: 4.7
[] Rank (percentile if rank is unavailable): 47/765 (top 10%)
[] AP (place score in parenthesis): none
[] IB (place score in parenthesis): N/A school doesn’t offer
[] Senior Year Course Load: AP English Lit, AP European History, Physics, Precalc, Economics Honors, Conscience of Man (Holocaust and human rights course), Peer Leadership
[] Major Awards (USAMO, Intel etc.): nothing huge really
[/ul]

Subjective:
[ul]
[] Extracurriculars (place leadership in parenthesis): President of Gay-Straight Alliance, volunteer at local pride center, played guitar since 7th grade, write poetry, peer leadership, photography, club hope (outreach and support club), summer travels all over North America, rotary interact club
[] Job/Work Experience: babysitter
[] Volunteer/Community service: pride center, charity walks, and I’ve done numerous hours with peer leadership and rotary interact
[] Summer Activities: North America travels (2 weeks each summer, explore national parks in US and Canada, got to experience different cultures)
[] Essays: Phenomenal. I have no doubt they were the strongest part of my application.
[] Teacher Recommendation: I read the one from my Algebra II teacher which was amazing, and I’m sure the ones from my Chemistry and History teachers were just as good if not better.
[] Counselor Rec: I’m sure it was great too
[] Additional Rec: Really personal one from my guitar teacher, which I’m sure had an impact because Oberlin is so music-focused.
[] Interview: It went okay, but I also sat down with my regional rep and talked for about an hour when I visited on the fly-in program
[] Supplementary Material (portfolio, etc.): I uploaded poetry and Polaroid photos that I’d taken
[/ul]

Other
[ul]
[] Applied for Financial Aid?: Yes but probably won’t get much
[] State (if domestic applicant): NJ
[] Country (if international applicant):
[] School Type: Public HS, pretty average
[] Ethnicity: White
[] Gender: Female
[] Income Bracket: 200,000+
[] Hooks (URM, first generation college, etc.): none
[/ul]

Reflection
[ul]
[] Strengths: Essays
[] Weaknesses: lack of more intense courses. My doubts about getting in stemmed from the fact that I would only have 2 AP classes at graduation and none of them were from before senior year
[] Why you think you were accepted/deferred/rejected: I think Oberlin saw in me how passionate I was about what I believed in and how I really do want to change the world. I also think they knew how much I wanted to come because I demonstrated so much interest (visited twice, once overnight on the fly-in program; emailed back and forth with regional rep and took the initiative to sit down with him; my Why Oberlin essay was stunning)
[] Where else were you accepted/deferred/rejected: didn’t send out any other apps. I had them ready to go if I wasn’t accepted.
[/ul]

**General Comments: ** After writing my stats down I kind of wonder why I was accepted. I think this shows how much the holistic review matters because I think who I was really shined through in my essays, recommendations, and personal meeting and emails with my regional rep. Stats are not everything, especially at colleges like Oberlin. I am SO EXCITED to be there in the fall.

hello, I am very curious on the stats that got you into Oberlin, would you mind sharing? Thanks!

here are some stats for my son:
gpa 3.3, strong upward trend
sat: 2130
rigor: 5 aps
ecs: improv, acting, tennis
essays: very strong, he’s a good writer, included a sonnet in his Oberlin essay
interest: visited and interviewed

other acceptances (ea): knox, uvm, tulane, clark, case western

subjective: at the beginning of the college process, we didn’t think his gpa would play at schools like oberlin and case. But he put together a very strong app and I’m sure he interviews well. We were a little surprised by the tulane acceptance but when he got into Case we started to believe oberlin might happen Then a top 20 lac where he’d interviewed and sent his stats/transcript really seemed after him to apply ED 2. In the end, he might have gotten into a school with a slightly better academic reputation but it’s all about fit and he fell in love with Oberlin.

When are they going to announce the financial aid?

@GunsNRoses95 i’m thinking maybe it will come in the mail with the mailed acceptance letter? I’m not sure though!

Oh alright, thanks! We’ll get the financial aid that was estimated in the early estimate form we got before admissions, right?
