Oberlin in New York

Last week several Oberlin Conservatory groups were in New York for performances. I have attached an article from the New York Times regarding a couple of the groups. My main purpose is doing so is because I believe the second paragraph contains a good concise statement of an important focus point for Oberlin Conservatory. This statement may prove useful for those students considering Oberlin.

Very nice Oberlin! Bravo!

Nice article and nice reference to Oberlin’s emphasis on educating creative, entrepreneurial musicians. Eight Blackbird and ICE are both amazing.

Just want to note that many schools are now emphasizing entrepreneurial musicianship (as well as outreach).

Here is an example from NEC: [Entrepreneurial Musicianship | New England Conservatory](<a href=“The College | New England Conservatory”>Entrepreneurial Musicianship | New England Conservatory)

It’s exciting and reassuring, if also frightening, that many musicians are now creating their own opportunities. To do so, they may need skills such as fundraising, website design, financial management, marketing, and communications… along with the talent and creativity. Or the money to hire someone else!

Thanks for posting-somehow I missed it!
