I recently got Oberlin interview and had a good conversation with AO. Does anyone know if the interview is selective or not or if the accepted students are interviewed by Oberlin?
Look forward to your replies
I’m not sure exactly what you are asking, but on the Common Data Set, the interview is a “Considered” element in admissions at Oberlin. It’s not “Important” or “Very Important.” I would guess they admit students who do not have an interview, and reject students who do.
If the interview is considered, it’s considered. Don’t read too much into it. My D interviewed for Oberlin. It was a solid match school. She was offered WL, then two days after the deadline, was offered a place along with merit money.
A good interview is helpful, a bad interview probably isn’t. As it’s considered, rather than being important or very important, I doubt it will make or break your app. Good luck.
@college_query I’m actually asking if students who are offered interview are more likely to be admitted than those who didn’t receive interview request. Cuz, I’ve asked some admitted students and most of them had been requested the interview. Plus, I am not sure what do you mean " they admit students who do not have an interview, and reject students who do."
@Lindagaf Thanks! Btw, Congrats to your D
College query means that you may be accepted or rejected, regardless of interviewing or not. As I said, the interview will not get you in. My D is a college freshman now. She isn’t at Oberlin:-)
Anyone can request an interview, btw. You aren’t special if you get one. Not everyone who gets in will be interviewed.
@Lindagaf summarized what I meant perfectly. Don’t read too much into having an interview. Or not having one.
