Oberlin or Lehigh

I would please like to hear as many opinions to help me finalize my choice. Cast your vote!

I can't think of two institutions much more different from each other, but without knowing anything about you, no one can give you good advice. Oberlin is one of the most distinguished liberal arts colleges in the country, the only one with a world-class conservatory of music attached. Personally I can't imagine choosing Lehigh over Oberlin. But it's not the right place for everyone; only you know what it is you're looking for and whether Oberlin will be that place.

Well, if you are a prospective engineer who is intrigued by Greek life I don't think Oberlin would pop to the top of your list? But you are right. These are very, very different schools. There is no way to advise the OP without a lot more information.

yes the fact that those two schools are very different and both have things going for them is at the source of my hesitation. What would probably help me decide is more information concerning where each institution's graduates end up, what grad schools and what jobs. Any information would be helpful
Thank you for all your responses :D
I'm happy to see people share their views

You're really not going to get any good advice about this without being more forthcoming about your personality, interests, approach to learning, career goals, etc.

A previous poster mentioned that he can't imagine anyone choosing Lehigh over Oberlin and while that is rather myopic, there is at least unintentional wisdom in the notion that the average student at either school would likely be quite unhappy at the other.

Oberlin is one of the top schools for grad school placement in a wide variety of fields. I, too, feel that the schools are so different that it should be pretty easy to choose.

Hi! :)
Thank you for you responses, the thing that appeals to me about Lehigh and which does not exist in Oberlin is the BA Arch major, because that is a career path i am interested in. But is it really worth sacrificing the opportunity of attending Oberlin since grad school is inevitable if i wish to pursue that field anyways...Will it make a difference in my chances with grad schools either way? (btw Oberlin does offer study abroad programs concentrated on Arch)

I'm a strong believer in the value of a broad-based liberal arts education before getting professional training in grad school. The Copenhagen Program in architecture is a very good option--it concentrates the skills-based and design courses that you would take in an undergrad architecture program into one semester, and apparently does it extremely well, so that you end up with a full portfolio to use in applying to grad programs.

Oberlin. But that's only MY personal preference.

I was in the same boat before I finally made me decesion. My two top schools were Tulane and Georgetown both of which are almost as different as Oberlin and Lehigh (seriously man, as far as the type of students at each school go, you couldn't have picked two more different places lol).

Academically, you can't go wrong. If engineering is your thing, Lehigh probably wins out. If you're into a true liberal arts education, though, go to Oberlin. Socially, however, I think both schools attract a certain type of student and being so small, I'd worry about fitting in if I didn't fit the school's steretypical student. That's where my decesion would hinge upon.

Hey :D
Thank you all for responding and sharing your views, it has helped me a great deal
