Oberlin or Smith

Hi everyone!

I'm having a lot of difficulty trying to decide between Smith and Oberlin. I know that being in an all women's environment is really empowering, but I really like Oberlin's quirky and carefree environment.

I'm really into English and Art, so I like that both schools are strong in these areas.

I had "chosen" Smith a while back, but I'm quite hesitant to send in my deposit, and keep thinking about Oberlin in the back of my mind.

But I'm an international student, and the Smith connections and alumni networks are way stronger.

Choosing Smith would be more practical for me, but I kind of feel like i belong in the Oberlin community. And Smith might be one of those things where I will grow to like it.

I'm so confused! Thanks for everyone's comments in advance!

It sounds like you are not actually confused. You want to attend Oberlin but are worried you are giving up a bit more prestige with Smith. I think the two schools are pretty even in reputation, with Smith getting the edge intl and on east coast and Oberlin the edge in mw. Both schools are known all over though, and so I suggest you follow your heart and chose Oberlin.

I don’t know what you mean about “the Smith connections and alumni networks [being] way stronger.” What gives you that idea? I would say Oberlin’s reputation and alumni network are absolutely the equal of Smith’s.
