I know a lot of kids on CC are doing that, but what about parents of applicants? I was awake in the middle of the night again with my mind churning over the possibilities and the ramifications of those possibilities. Most of this is because I have two children to think about at once who between them submitted 12 applications, and there are a lot of possible outcomes. And then there is also the knowledge that if the kids do go to boarding school, we probably won't be able to climb out of our current financial hole. I'm wondering what the heck we were thinking to get started with this. Anyone else having some regrets as we wait in this limbo?

I remember posting a very similar sentiment the year that we applied. Think I mentioned waking up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat wondering what the heck we were thinking agreeing to let her go to BS. I hate to sound cliche, but everything does in fact work out as it should.

No regrets here but the wait is stressful. I applied out for two kids this admissions cycle…one for HS and one fore kindergarten. Between them both I sent out 20 applications and I’m exhausted. I just had my last BS interview last weekend and now we wait. Kindergarten comes out 2/7, the city HS notices come out 2/12 and then of course the one that we are all waiting for is M10. What I think about a lot is…what happens if my 5yr old doesn’t get a spot…our public option is horrible so I’m more stressed about that than HS. I need a weekend away at a spa after all is said and done. [-O<

There was a worry thread last year. I’ll dig it up. Spa sounds good after all these wintry stuff.

There! I found it.
I searched for worry thread but the speller changed it to wort thread.
Hogwarts speller I guess

Ah, the worry thread. I will go wallow in it. Thanks, all, for commiserating.

After I’m done w obsessing & driving GMTspouse crazy over getting GMTson2 into prep school, I can immediately move onto obsessing & driving GMTspouse crazy over getting GMTson1 into college.

We’re kinda starting to freak out here, too. M10 is a long way away. And I don’t feel like I can plan anything until after that! Like summer programs he usually does…we can’t register because we may not have the funds if this all happens. But if he doesn’t register he may lose his place.

Blarg.

Twinsmama, I LOVE that avatar.
NYCMom, come to the Berkshires! Lots of nice spas. ; )
As for waking in the dead of night with worries… well, I am STILL doing that, even though my kid’s having a good freshman year so far. Her school’s choir is planning an overseas concert tour… one more thing to keep me up at night!!
Meanwhile, my fingers are crossed for all of you to get nothing but the best news on M10.

I think we all had those moments! S1 is a 9th grader, and it seems like so long ago that we were waiting for M10. Results came out while he was in a most-of-the-day competition, and we were under strict orders not to check our email until after the competition so he could know with us. That was nail biting for us! This year brought its own issues. He is doing well and isn’t too far away (geographically), but it is still an adjustment. S2 likes being the only kid at home most of the time!

Opposite here. …last year my daughter was home for two decisions on march 9th, then mburg, which was her top choice, came out at midnight. She was out on a date and asked me to check for her and then TEXT her the decision. She didn’t care at all that i would know first. Glad it didnt ruin her date. ;)

I might have a doctor’s appointment on March 10. It’ll be an excuse to not go to school!

I like it that Mercersburg comes out at midnight. The kids can stay up for that and then go to bed either crushed or excited (or one of each). :-)

I haven’t been able to determine whether the schools we are waiting on are snail mail only or email and snail mail…all have the general notification of on or about March 10. Do most give an email as well? ZooSon just hopes we hear before departing for spring break travel on 11th. That would pretty much ensure worst family trip ever if no news beforehand! :((

Zoo: Call the schools and get definitive answers. You’ll go crazy otherwise.

29 days…I’m hoping for them to just fly by [-O<

4 weeks from tomorrow! We’re down 24 of 53 days, this time will fly by.

Do call if they don’t say on their web site, zoo-- because the answer is that not all schools do email. My son and a friend of his applied to the same school. We got good news through the mail (express mail or UPS–I forget which), but they were out of town and were told there would be no email from the school-- so we drove over to their house for them. Alas, no mail-- but it wasn’t really clear for a few days what that really meant ( he then ended up getting a letter through snail mail saying he was WL).

Our school mails the letters, but since it’s not an acronym school, they actually send them out Feb 28 - which is a FRIDAY this year, so it will totally stress us out if the letter doesn’t arrive on Saturday!!! The school is only 20 minutes from our house, so technically it could get here in one day. But I don’t know if we’ll be able to sleep that night!!! EEEK!!! I’m pretty sure they don’t do emails ahead of time. Wish they did, bc I’d gladly stay up till midnight just to see! LOL! The only thing is Moosiehubby wants us to find out before telling Moosieboy, and that’s going to be REALLY hard if it’s a YES! Hubs and son will be gone most of March 1, so it’ll be me sitting here at home with the letter burning a hole in my hands until they get here (IF it comes on Saturday, that is…).

we hear from one day school this month, but of course they require a commitment/deposit by M15 so the early notice could be both a blessing (shew, we’re in somewhere!) and a curse (non-refundable deposit due before revisit days). It’s always something!
