I'm just wondering about how hard it is to obtain a PTE. Are professors generally generous with them? Does it help if you know the professor well and have a personal relationship? Some of this might be obvious, but I just wanted to know from people who actually know first hand.

differen't professors have different policies when it comes to PTE numbers. Some professors gives them out to everyone that wants to add, some do a lottery for those on the waitlist, some just don't give them out at all. You just have to talk to the professor beforehand.

and I'm pretty sure it wouldn't hurt to know the professor personally if you want to get a PTE number.

If it's a discussion section, one usually speaks with the T/A.

If a seminar, proceed with the professor.

Hmm cool, I did not know that TA's had that type of power.

mrMOO,

Take it from a TA-- your TA can make or break you.

yes an all too common feeling... say, i had the chance to take another and it was the diffience between say and A- and A. i bore the burden and earned the former ... in that case wihtin the constricts of the TA's discussion sections and so forth such that,... i felt pelasantly surprised at my ... say, gain and so forth.

would you get the PTE number now for winter quarter?
or should you wait until winter quarter to talk to the prof then?

you should wait till winter quarter.

okay thanks!
