i wrote about athletic competition... what kind of competition do we need to write about? O.O

High school athletics...

..Athletic? It was about student athletes.

oh, just to make sure >.<

cause my friend... said something about student competition, like getting good GPA and stuff - -

Your friend went off-topic then. :p

yay, thank u guys ^^

i put something like educators that put process before outcome are laying foundations for the athletes while educators that put the fear of losing into their athletes are doing them a disservice. off topic maybe ?

I just put that Athletics should not be underemphasized because it is a fantastic motivator, builds a strong teamwork qualities and the ability to work better with others, and builds mental charactar.

Good/Bad/Ugly?

to Mango Man, how come i didn't think of that, XP, i just picked one side - -.

i need to practice how to write essays T-T. i used 7 minutes to think what should i write about..

i don't think it's off topic. the prompt asked whether or not you thought more emphasis should be placed on winning rather than teamwork and perseverance. If you mentioned athletic competition, it's great as long as you took a side. With academic competition, it might be a bit more iffy, b/c the prompt specifically said "student athletes." however, i think if you connected the ideas with effective transitions, they won't take points off.

Mango Man, I dunno if that completely answers the prompt. It was asking whether too much value was placed on winning, not on athletics in general. I just BSed something about how teams that only focus on winning create negative attitudes that get in the way of victory anyway, and how teamwork was the only solution. Something sickening like that. I don't know that I'll do very well, but as long as I get above an 8 or so, I don't care.

I didn't finish my essay. I was just about to start wrapping up my essay when time was called. I included three points supporting my position, along with an example for each. Do you guys think my score will be affected because I didn't finish?

i think i just went insane at the end
i somehow drew parallels between high school athletics and capitalism

haha yea, i almost didn't finish either. i was in the middle of the conclusion, so the essay ended really weird. hope i don't get docked.

@daman11
***, capitalism?!!

I related winning a district/state championship to receiving a "12" on the essay haha, as they both indicate tremendous skill in a specific area...I hope the graders don't get annoyed

I talked about steroid abuse, suicide, the rising tax burden from school sports, the huge percentage of the schools' budgets that goes towards sports, and the bad environment that discourages participation when a team is too concentrated on winning.

I thought about talking about how I quit cross country because it was too much oriented towards rah-rah-rah win-win-win

I thought it was a pretty tricky topic to write about.

I wrote about how when i had to sit out on when I played high school athletics for a month because winning was everything and I ended up tearing my ACL, and then to how competition and winning in college athletics is a lot more important...

One of the worst essays I have ever written... not happy about it at all..
