October 2010 - International SAT

To goldnano:
First of all, the passage is about X. Washington who invented something to develop the farming style in the Southern part of America. Section 2 seems to be the real one and Section 6 the experimental. But where is the "Ireland " question located?

I checked the March 2008 SAT CR thread (yep, I’m that obsessed :))

Here are several top scorers with their answers:

 • Laugh-cry-smile: artificial construct, diffident, versatility, overwrought, universal truth
 • GeoffreyChauver: negative connotation, respond to a presumed challenge, duplicitous
 • X0julie: diffident, more optimistic, model
 • Silvykins (CR:800): artificial construct, unaffected
 • Lolcats (CR:800): model

@djp: I am pretty sure the answer is ‘indigenous to…encountered’. The question goes like this: This bug is … this area, which is why it cannot be … in other areas’.

@MajorQuest: I think it was a question regarding the first author’s comment about several lines from passage 2, though I’m not sure anymore.

@goldnano: Yep. :)

What is “versatility” and “negative connotation”?

Versatility is from the botanist passage. Negative connotation is from the political belief passages, something about ‘herds’.

what are the other options in the “herds” question?

a. Something about political belief system
b. Negative connotation
c-e. Don’t remember :)

@ kelvinzhu: Do we have sth relating to Ireland in the test =.=? Just joking, I just cannot remember, sorry :(

Is choice A "a lack of coherence in the political belief system?

^Something like that.

1 omit and 4 wrongs already, I’m so doomed if CB reused the curve =.=

Then why “negative connotation”?

do you think they’ll re use the curve too?

Anyone remember something about the “herds” question? Is the answer “negative connotation”?

^ I don’t think so. It depends on the US test-takers though. If they find the test easy, the curve will be as harsh.

the US SAT and the international SAT use the same curve? that sucks! :(

i dont think the curve’s gonna chang:(
college board says the curve is based on the difficulty of the test
which means it has nothing to do with how test-takers did
i mean…the difficulty wouldn’t change right?grrrrr…

grrrr… :(

You guys are totally missing the point here.

CURVES ARE NOT PREDETERMINED.

It’s a little complicated issue but to put it succinctly, no, curves will not be the same as last time. It does depend on how well the test takers do on the exam.

@boozer14: just curious…how do u know that?

^^boozler, you just summarized what I’d been trying to say. :)
