how do u know curve is not predetermined? I thought there is a post in like page 10 or smt saying that curve is determined before the test, so it does not depend on how test takers do.

i got curious too, and read on the college board website about how the SAT is scored; it says: “Equating ensures that the different forms of the test or the level of ability of the students with whom you are tested do not affect your score.”

That’s saying that how well other people do on the test does not affect your score. So the curve IS predetermined

I think the curve’s gonna be more lenient. If you guys take a look at the previous 5 years of SAT CR curves, you can see that all months except march would have curves like -10=680-700. I don’t think the curve this time would be the same since the other time it was in march which means it was only for Americans. Take a look at the curves published by College Board for the past five years: http://www.erikthered.com/tutor/SAT-Released-Test-Curves.pdf You can see the pattern already.

If you’re interested to know more about the relationship between SAT scores and curves, go to this page. http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/sat-preparation/760312-so-what-historically-easy-sat-administration-date-comments.html

Why are curves created?
-To create balance.
What is balance?
-not too many 800s or 400s
How to do that?
-…I don’t exactly know, but it is sth based on the performances of the test-takers.
Whose performances again?
-TEST-TAKERS!

=> The curve is NOT predetermined.

So, what do you think about Writing? Any particularly challenging question we should discuss about?

I believe we have touched upon most of the challenging questions. It’s in our best interest to just shut up and relax now. Realizing more mistakes will only make our journey till the 28th, harder.

anyone 's going to take subject tests in November? :D

^ I AM! I’m taking MATH II and one out of physics and chemistry.

Any idea which one is easier? ( I know physics is easier curve-wise, but generally…)

My friends tell me that Physics is hella easier.
However, I’m going to take Math2, Biology and Chemistry. =.= already started to cram princeton reviews.

Oh well. I’m going to take MII, P and C then. Not too sure. I registered for Eng. Lit instead of physics. Can I switch at the center?

The curve is predetermined.
Because the test had been already taken before in March 2008, the likelihood of the curve being more/less lenient is low. In addition, judging from the curve two years ago, the test was released with College Board thinking it would be easy. I doubt they will have different expectations of us.

@itsmylife99:

Yes, I’m positive you can change the subject at the test center. You can also decide to take more subjects on testing day spontaneously, since the fee that you pay is for one booklet that contains all subject tests.

Just to make sure, I’d ask the person in charge of assigning SAT proctors and handling registration at your school.

I’m taking Math II, Physics and Chemistry in November too. Anyone has any tips for fatigue management? My head was practically burning at the end of October SAT test - I don’t remember anything from section 10. Taking three consecutive 1 hour tests is gonna kill me.

btw-this isn’t the first time college board is reusing its tests-apparently they do it quiet often.

to clear the confusion about the SAT curve read post#10 by Xiggi-

I thought there was a break between each SAT II exam???

Wow you guys are fast. :)

to djp2002: I still believe my version of the curve, we’ll see in the next 15 days. Anw, you hope that CB reuses the curve ?=.=
to icolumbiau: yes, a short break after each test.

I’m also taking the subject tests in November! I’ll be taking Spanish and Maths II, I am still deciding as to whether I should take physics or history. I am applying for an architecture major, what do I do I really can’t decide and we can only take 3 tests per sitting… Which one is ‘easier’ to obtain the highest score do you guys reckon’?
