October 2010 - International SAT

@Animate I have the same ‘problem’, by the end of the SAT reasoning test I feel completely worn out, but I think that during the breaks drinking some fresh water really helps and bring a fruit or something to eat in one or two of the breaks… Critical thinking really makes me worn out.

does anyone remember a writing question with “founder and first president” something, is it correct?

I put the answer as “the founder and first”, but Im not sure. It may as well be “no error”

Thanks djp2012, but I differ with you on the “curve is predetermined” part. The curve by virtue of its definition renders the test’s scoring relative. Since the March test was taken by Americans and this one was taken by international students, there will be some difference in the scoring curve, albeit a very small difference. Now the question remains: Do Americans perform better than international students, generically speaking, or do international students outshine them. My guess would be, since Americans have their first language as English, they might find the CR section a tad better easier than we do. As a result, the curve will be harsher for them. But this topic is highly contentious, so we can’t reach a conclusion, however. But one thing’s for sure, the curve is not predetermined.

@itsmylife99:
Yes, the curve by virtue is just as you said. The curve in actuality is predetermined by College board experts. The curve is applied as soon as they grade all essays and the scantrons are marked.

@itsmylife-check out the link i posted #636

I can’t believe there are still two weeks left…

gracias, george!

If the curve is predetermined, will the curve for international test-takers differ from the curve for US test-takers?

If it is predetermined, it will remain the same. This sucks man.
If got 3 questions wrong, and no omits, would score should I expect in CR?

@djp2012-yoru welcome!
@unconfidential- I doubt it.I presume the difficulty level would be the same for the US as well as international tests takers.

Is it just me or did the thread suddenly become extremely depressing???

The curve predetermined or not is extremely speculative. The curve may be predetermined, if so maybe it might be different for intl and US students…because if they will use the predetermined curve from 2008 then *** was the experimental section for??? I think the experimental section is an integral part of curve determination…

But whatever may the curve be…I WANT 28TH TO COME NOW!!

btw has everyone already chosen score recipients? I still can’t decide which four I’m gonna pick.

^ That pretty much depends on my result. I made a deal with my parents:
a. Above 2300, apply to all HYPS.
b. Above 2250, apply to only two among these four.
c. Above 2200, apply to only one.
d. Below this 2200 threshold, can’t even think about it.

Im gonna cry if the curve stays the same as March 2008 =,=
btw the experimental section is for future test dates I think- not to determine the curve for this test

@ Unconfidential: Checking ur posts, I’m pretty sure that you can apply to at least 2 lol. Anw, why not apply to your dream school even if you got below 2200? Miracles happen only to the one who gives a try.

==! Argh, why the hell there are so many vocabs for SAT 2 Bio (I didnt even touch the chemistry book =.=)

Again, I think it would be interesting to make a bet on the SAT curve: will it be the same as US march 2008’s or easier. ;)

Can you still pick four recipients for free after your scores come out? I thought you had to pick four by 18th.

@goldnano: I would love to apply to all of my dream schools. :slight_smile: But it would be unrealistic and costly due to some financial issues.

Goodness, you guys are so fast. I just ordered several SAT II books yesterday, and you’ve already started studying? I assume this year’s competition among international applicants will be really tough. :)

@MajorQuest: It became depressing ever since I mentioned that this test’s CR was the same as the domestic March 2008 one…

Three wrong, itsmylife99, would prolly be 760 or 750. I got three wrong too, ****.

Anyone taking it again in November?

Didn’t register. :<
Late registration is only for US students so…yeah.
