October 2010 Math SAT Thread

^nvm they beat me to it.

Ya, got that wrong the reason the answer is 1/54 is because:
6,6,6 probability = 1/216
5,6,6 probability = 1/216
6,5,6 probability = 1/216
6,6,5 probability = 1/216

Add them all up 4/216 = 1/54.

Does it make a difference that in the dice problem, they were rolled simultaneously, instead of in an order?

Can someone make a consolidated list?

Do you guys think the curve on the math section will be harsh, moderate, or forgiving?

harsh…i guess. :(((((

easier math SAT’s=harsh curve
I don’t think this math SAT was easy…certain questions were hard.

I thought this math was actually hard :(

No one saw my question up before so im saying it again:

Does it make a difference that in the dice problem, they were rolled simultaneously, instead of in an order?

are the tests all the same worldwide? I am reading all these questions and I am pretty sure I didn’t get this dice question you are all talking about :(

lets start the consolidated list guys, forget the 1/54 or 1/108 question for now

@wagsthedog, i think it doesn’t matter whether they’re rolled separately or together, but the logical thinking would say they were rolled at once. Digression-hate it when you play monopoly with someone who rolls dice one at a time… :)

I’m pretty sure the dice question was 1/54…

Someone please get silverturtle here to solve the die problem so we can all sleep tonight.

1/54 1/54 1/54 1/54 1/54 1/54 1/54 1/54

https://alumnus.alumni.caltech.edu/~leif/FRP/probability.html

I put no answer because I was oblivious at the point in time. It’s quite obviously 1/54.

what was the question with the answer as 8000 in july? the question… not the answer

i cant remember the question so i cant remember if i got it right or not

Please guys, lets stop this dice question discussion. 80% of the thread is about this question. Doesn’t matter now.

Since the dice question seemed to trick so many people… possible -1 is 800???

Can someone please confirm these:

a/b = 2/3 … I know answer was 3 but was 3 answer choice B?
x^2 > 3/5y^2 … answer choice E?
t,x,y … E. x>y

Yeah, a consolidated list would be nice, but Im too lazy :)
