October 2010 Math SAT Thread

I think your limits of 0 and 6 are incorrect.

For the problem with the obtuse triangle, the side lengths were 5 and 7 right? so 9 would work?

what was the question with the answer 1080?

Those were for sure the limits, I remember clearly. I am not sure, however, if we are talking about different questions. I do remember choosing 36 as an answer for one of the questions, but now thinking about it, I don’t know if I remember it being a part of the |xy| question. One of the answer choices may have also been “20”, if I remember correctly.

I remember choosing 1 for something that wasn’t possible and 20 for something that was

hmmm… anyone else?

@loopyz, yes.

@jollybolly, yeah, it’s probably just a mixup.

^ Yup, those were the answers. But I forgot the problem.

does anybody remember the problem with the boundaries 0<x<Y<6 :(?

anyone remember the question with “2(5x-8)”?

@jolly

i THINK it was

which of the following is a possible value of xy

or something like that

answer:20

loopyz, yeah i think so too.

The bacteria one was 18

yeah! actually, i do remember choosing that i think. but did it have the boundaries 0<x<y<6?

what was the question with the answer 1080 something on the consolidated list?

jolly- pretty sure

because i think i did 5x4

does no1 remember a question with an answer of 1080 something on grid in becuz i dont.

x^2 +y^2=a where a>0, and xy=a-10. What is (x+y)^2 in terms of a?

you cut it in half diagonally and then there are two triangles with hypotenuse 5 and base 3 and then you find the area of each and add together or you could just find the area of one and skip the multiply by 1/2 part

proto- 3a-20

for the slope of the line for 30 degrees, i got root 3x.
i understand y this is wrong because it has to be less than 1 but i dont know how
m= root 3- 0/ 1-0 = root 3
??

how did you guys get the answer 8000 for the july and august one? i had no idea what to do
