October 2010 Writing SAT thread

^it was comparing so “by comparision”

although coup said “indeed”.

@coupdefoudre

Was it (C)?

@Light: I think so?

@Organic passage: I marked “Indeed,” because based on context, the preceding sentence was also about how organic foods are more expensive.

If I’m remembering correctly, I put its as a mistake for the mammal one. The wording was like:

The reason the mammal is the dominant species is its ability to adapt…

It needed a because of its ability…
Or something like that? I had experimental writing. Was the experimental writing section 4 or 5? I had one with like 4 no errors (that was section 4) and one with 1 no error (section 5). I thought section 4 was easy, so I slacked for a bit on section 5, but now I’m thinking section 4 was the experimental. ;-;

I got a NE that wasn’t the mammal question.

And does anybody remember the question about “Its <something something=”“>, the company <something else=”" something=“”>?"</something></something>

I said “Indeed”

i chose by comparison over indeed,

@Nao: Do you know what the experimental was? And I thought it had a “because of.” (I marked NE).

@Crzy: I marked the “while still making a profit” since it didn’t fit with the parallel structure.

^ I chose “indeed” at first but then I think I switched to the answer above it (B) which started with “By comparison”, because it was a comparison between prices, no?

Also, do we have a consolidated list?

^^ I did the exact same thing.

But was it comparing something with the sentence immediately preceding?

I thought it was like

Sentence before: General Statement
Sentence: Statement that adds further detail using comparison but not comparing directly with the preceding statement.

That’s why I choose indeed.

@Austrian: Yes, it was a comparison between prices, but that does not necessarily justify “by comparison.” The question specified “in context,” and the preceding sentence also discusses how organic foods are more costly than conventionally produced foods. It is logical, therefore, that the following sentence begins with “Indeed” because it states that the organic produce prices are forty percent more costly. “Indeed” is the correct way to begin the sentence, since the sentence builds upon the preceding sentence.

Edit: Essentially what Mabs said. (:

^how does “by comparision” not build upon the preceding sentence?

OK, can someone please confirm my following questions?

The reason, …, its … // no error or “its”, which one?

Company maintains while still making… // someone remind me of this?

“Would of” to “would have” … or “would be” to “were”? // were they in the same question?

Ursula and guitar… enthusiasm to play… came to the realization // no error ??

Friends since kindergarten…//
he
changed to
each
?

price at which
// someone remind me of this one?

mammal question // someone remind me of this one?

change the phrase to “by comparison” ?

also, was it

__, which was in part because

or

_____, in part because

i put in part because

I said, “Poor black people” when saw “would of” haha

Also, I think there was a bigger error on the “so poor” sentence towards the end.

how was “by comparision” not building on the previous statement?

i put in part because too
and i got creative arts for the essay
