October 2010 Writing SAT thread

i got 2 no error for the identifying errors in regular section

@mabsjenbu123: i said "in part because … "

The last question was not no error. The end of the sentence went something like “scientists observed that the frequency of heart disease in the people who at fish [were] reduced.”

Since it was referring to the frequency of heart disease, it needed to be “was reduced.”

what was rationale in indeed and by comparison? if i got that one then im pretty sure i got an 800 in writing. if not…

^ Yeah, I remember that one. Definitely was not no error

@ jlewis: tanning bed one might be experimental

@mabsjenbu123: I put “in part because…” If you ignore the “in part” in both sentences, you get “because” or “which is because”, and “because” is the grammatically correct one.

For the essay I basically just summarized everything I learned in AP Art History and made up some study by The National Neurologist Academy (BS organization) that art helped increase brain synapse activation in autistic children by 38% and also that children who drew/painted freely for an hour a day for twelve weeks showed an average 16 point greater increase in IQ tests than those in a control group who did not.

I’m just a bit nervous because my timing was off and I ended up writing an abrupt and almost illegible conclusion because my hand completely cramped.

Well, at least my MC should be flawless, -1 at most

Yeah gmer that what I got, one no error, but it put that the mammal one had an error. Also, did you put as a result of for one the improving sentences questions?

was the second to last question no error?

Oh yeah I got the heart one as an error. Well then I’m wondering which one I put as an errror then. Maybe it was the second to last one?

I’m really sure it was indeed. The previous sentence was talking about how organic foods were expensive and then the forty percent thing. So it’s logical to say indeed whereas comparison would imply that the previous sentence was talking about how conventional food was cheaper, but it wasn’t.

Was the concluding sentence ultimately…the consumers get to decide whether organic or conventional was better?

bgrlqn: Yeah I put as a result of

is it final that the mammal question has an error? because that was one of the two which i put no error as.

I was torn so much on the indeed v.s. in comparison thing.

i’m trying to remember the mammal one, can you refresh my memory on how it went?

@bgrlqn, what was the “as a result of” question again? Was that the tornado one?

second to last one had an error

i almost chose no error, but

“astonishing” should be “astonishingly”

so that was an error… i think it was C

@simplybigrole: I don’t think it was indeed. I remember a choice that had a “for instance”. I think that should be the answer.

i agree with ijkim80, its supposed to be astonishingly. thats what i put

Thats a different question, ritkusa.
