October 2011 Post-ACT Test discussion

Also, I think the “gauging her interest” vs. “joking” was actually joking, because he asked if she’d be willing to play 1,000 times with a huge grin on his face. Contextually, it seemed to make the most sense. Again, though, could go either way.

what about the math question towards the end where it had a circle with a 90 degree section and lines that started at the edge of the 90 section and meet at a point on the other side of the circle. and it asked for the measure of two of the angles combined? i dont really know how to explain it well… but what was the answer? I was running out of time and just guessed.

im not positive. but i put 67.5.
because one of the angles turned out to be half of 45 (22.5) and the other was 45. i forgot what unorthodox method i used to figure it out, but it made sense at that time.

thats what I put, but now that I think about it, I think it’s 45 :(

its 45

also, for the countless vs numbered, it was countless. There were actually many writers who were unknown. The woman wanted to start the magazine in order to give the many unknown writers the spotlight.

As for gauging her interest vs joking, think of it this way. If the girl had responded like, “NO, THERE IS ABSOLUTELY NO WAY I AM DOING THAT”, the teacher would be able to tell that she didn’t want to practice. Since the girl actually considered it for a second and realized the teacher wasn’t completely serious (while not joking) the teacher understood that the student was willing to work. I may be wrong though.

Personally I think that the gauging her interest vs joking was a silly question.

It sounded like the teacher said to “practice 1000 times” in a joking manner (it is a large amount to practice in a just a few weeks, and he smiled after he said it). And yet at the same time, he seemed to be gauging her response to his joke as a serious indicator of her interest. I got tripped up here and couldn’t decide because in my mind, they were both correct…

I ended up putting joking, but I can definitely see the argument for either side. This and the air resistance vs gravity question are making me crazy -_-

Thoughts on the gauging her interest vs joking question?

During the “gauging her interest” passage i remember double looking this question but then went with gauging her interest…

and hopefully it is gravity…but idk abt this one

Could someone please give me an estimate as to what a -3E -6M -2R -6S would score?

what were the the other answer choices for the guaging her interest question? I don’t remember what I put lol

the only other plausible answer was that the teacher was joking.

A change in gravity gravity would have absolutely no effect at all on what was being measured in this experiment. The answer is air resistance.

Is there a consolidated list of answers somewhere in this thread?

Best case scenario/ very worst case scenario Score Prediction? (big difference just cuz mistakes i could have made)

Scenario 1:
Math: -3
English: -3
Reading: -4
Science -3

Scenario 2: (Worst worst case)
Math: -6
English: -8
Reading -8
Science -8

When will scores be released?

nov 8 for most people

Are most of you guys still listed as “registered” for this act?

Yup. I’m not sure if that’s a problem or not; I took the September one this year, and it went from Registered to Tested on the day of. Maybe the ACT just haven’t updated their systems yet?

Im still listed as “registered.” Does anyone else know theirs?

Listed as tested, but I’m not sure when scores are posted or where the scores forum is?

Score will be out in 53 mins.
