October 2011 SAT Reading

What was the question with ameliorate?

I also had an experimental cr but nothing with disneyland

@cortana “lassitude” and “fix” are experimental I think.

What did you guys put for the question regarding the symbolism of “wading through still and often murky waters”

Also archaeologist or lawyer?

The question was something about two leaders, Ghandhi and martin luther king jr. maybe, “blank social injustice” which i believe is ameliorate.

Also, did anyone get “countenance” as an answer? I believe it was the answer to the last question in one of the sets.

Damn it, I think I put resigned for the vehement/caustic one. And I got all the vocab wrong, I’m pretty sure.

LoseYourself: It was the one that was something like this:

Although Malcom X/ MLK both attempted to _______ social injustice, they tried to do so in radically different ways.

I put something like Apprehensively going into another person’s life…

^thats correct

Further explanation on vehement vs caustic

Caustic means criticizing with bitterness, there wasn’t any bitterness in tone
Vehement just means strong and passionate. They were both passionate about the story

@subsidize

I got archaeologist for the question where the other choices were like “spy” and “lawyer” for the question in the arts passage about “human capacity”

Can you give some more context for that question and maybe some answer choices? I do not remember putting ameliorate and I’m almost certain I got all the vocabulary right.

@Paddyws, to clarify “human complexities” was the answer to the last question, but the first question asked what the passage primarily focused on about Baker and that was her “political philosophy” Fair?

what was the archaeologist question?

@cortana: It’s spy, since it has words that imply sneaking around and behind the scenes stuff.

Pretty sure I have a -4 to a -6. How much is that?

@Mascara it was Definitely Archaeologist. Those lines discussed studying “remnants of things” and looking at traces of fragments and drawing conclusions. That’s what an archaeologist does pretty much.

^ agree with cortana

Nuclear Power:

-Both authors agreed that nuclear power has been “controversial”
-Green energy has been tried and “found wanting”
-Both shared an “emphatic” tone
-The second passage was “vehement”
-The first paragraph “alludes to a pivotal event”
-Both passages “invoke collective interest”

Art:

-The piece is “personal and reflective”
-A detour is different from “everyday experiences”

Biography:

-The biographer shares “political values”
-Baker’s “political philosophy” was talked about the most
-Wading into the murky water>>apprehension
-Biographer argues for an “alternate approach”
-She engages in “self-admonition”
-Biographer honored to note “human complexities”
-Biographer is like an “archaeologist”
-Marginalized peoples must participate
-Treatment>>handling
-Human capacity>>Lawyer learning from past mistakes

Fleece:
-He acts “paranoid”
-Narrator is “disappointed”
-Ideas are “independent of conscious thought”
-Fleece touches his head out of “pride”
-Authority figure is a “killjoy”

Blogging:
-Quote “accounts for a phenomenon”
-Passage 1 is “overly optimistic”
-Passage 1 says you can get attention

yep archaeologist

I really think it was “caustic” and not “vehement.” The author CLEARLY despised coal as an energy source and “caustic” means “severely critical”

^cortana, he was passionate not bitter against coal

f I put something like musician change their style…
