October 2011 US History Discussion

If anyone remembers any simple questions that they are sure of the answer of, post those too.

^ I don’t think it was immigration, just general population (could be wrong though), and I put the same thing. maybe because of the sunbelt migration?

@sivilised, I am pretty sure that was it. I just looked into AMSCO :)

What did you all get for the cartoon that depicted a barrel with the word TAMMANY on it, and what seemed like an immigrant chained to it? I put down political machines as the answer although apparently there was an answer to do with immigrants, which would make more sense!

I put political machines as well; it appeared as though the artist compared embroilment in a political machine to slavery.

^That’s more thoughtful than my reasoning! I saw ‘TAMMANY’ on the barrel and immediately related it to political machines :)

What was the answer to the last question in the test, i have no idea.

Horatio Alger writes about-- self made man

“Is that all?” quote-- Betty Friedan

muckraker

“city up on the hill”-- Winthrop

Jonathan Edward-- religious revival (forgot the wording, anyway)

During American Antislavery War: issue a lot of paper money

McCarran Internal Security Act-- against communism

1970s migration: south and west

American Antislavery Society: working-class african american

iron curtain: the very last choice-- something about threat from USSR

similarity b/t Malcolm X, Garvey, and someone else: separatism

Article of Confederation: weak central government

Federalist paper: ratification of constitution

seventeenth century labor system: slave replaced indentured servants

Jay Treaty: preservation of peace with GB

Zoot Suit Riot: mexican youth

Great Plain: steel plow (?)

first question: disease

McCarthy: (???)

“Great Society”-- LBJ

desegregation in army: after 1945

American system: ??

not a factor that caused Great Depression: failure of negotiation with other countries on certain pacts

Cartoon (Tammany Hall): political machine

“I ask no favor for my sex.” – (what was the right answer to this question? i think it was only one word)

I remember “Spanish war” was related to a question. there’s a question asking what was the difference b/t territorial expansion before this point and after this point… i put something related “oversea.” anyone remembers?

How lenient do you think the curve will be this time?

one of the questions asked about what war did yellow journalism spark up or something like that… the answer was the Spanish-American war.

what was the one about natural rights? I put the Bill of rights… but now I think it’s the Declaration of Independence -_-

Lets keep this thread active guys.

taft differed from roosevelt in his foreign policy in that he relied more on the US’ economic sway (“dollars for bullets”) than that of our military, the latter of which defined roosevelts’s foreign policy (roosevelt corollary>>dominican occupation)

i didn’t have the “american system” question on mine, but i think it refers to henry clay’s support of public works, BUS, and protectionism.

I actually thought this test was harder than the AP exam (I took the late test, btw). When I took the CB official practice test (the one in the blue book for subject tests) I got an 800, but I’ll be lucky to get a 700 on this exam I think :(

Keep in mind, however, that because it’s the beginning of the year, most students who took this test will be seniors/juniors who took APUSH last year, and have forgotten a lot of the material. Naturally, the curve is going to be a bit better I should think.

what was NOT the reason Why African Americans moved from rural to urban after 1940

Steel plow was definitely the answer since they needed it to toil the hard sod ground of the West

what was the biggest crop in the colonies before 1750

tobacco? indigo? cotton?

i put tobacco

I thought it was sugar because it said Western Hemisphere and the majority of slaves went to South American and the Caribbean for sugar I thought?
