October 2014 ACT discussion thread

message me plz

Okay does anyone remember what they put for one of the very first questions on the English for 74A. It was something like “plentiful gifts”. Also what about the reading one that had to do with Eris. I put like it is 96.7 something units away from Saturn?

Got 74A. I didn’t have many issues, but it was tough compared to my previous one (I believe it was 70F in February 2013), so I imagine a fairly generous curve.
English: a couple sticky ones but not too bad.
Math: harder than normal. A few unusual logic-based problems, a few hard geometry/trig ones.
Reading: not necessarily harder questions, but for some reason took me longer than normal.
Science: harder than last time. Knowledge of the subjects helped more than in previous years.

I got 74 A as well. This was my first time taking the ACT and I barely prepped… I did practice problems and tests though but I feel like the science was sooo hard I guessed on almost an entire science section because I had not ine left. The math was also really hard  is the curve going to be big for this one?

English - Easy
Math - Normal (Guessed on 3-4 Q’s)
Reading - Guessed on last 4
Science - Normal

I feel that reading and math will probably have a slightly higher than normal curve. English and science were fairly middle-of-the-road, though I must admit I disliked the ant questions of the science test.

Yeah I actually freaked out because I’ve never taken the ACT before and everyone told me to do it in 5, 6, and 7 but there were no 5s, 2 sevens and tons of sixes! Could this actually be a modified version that they wanted to try out so we’ll get a nice curve? I put A/F for the last science section because I ran out of time.

I wouldn’t count on a good math curve. That was pretty easy.

I had test form 74A. I hate the “i” type of math problems.
…3i or 9i?

I just took it today. It seemed that english, math, and reading was relatively ok, but sciene was a nightmare. I’m getting frighetened because it seems that everybody is saying that there wont be a generous curve in science.

@mathphysicschem‌ SO true, never had an easier math section. Although I might just be biased b/c I always score highest on math…

@jarvis97‌ a lot of people are saying we’ll get a generous science curve because it was kind of different.

Hoping for 36 on math and english, vut guessed ob 3-4 on reading and science each. So maybe around a 32 for each of those? This test was way too hard. Waayyyy too hard. The last tests were so much easier. The act is trying to assume the role of he previous sat, as hell on paper

I didn’t know we were allowed to say our form number?

Going straight into English with a weird question like that annoyed me. However, I felt more prepared this time around. I didn’t scramble with the science questions and passages with 5 minutes left. The comparative reading thing threw me a loop but whatevssss. It was a pretty good passage.

The Didactic, What was the weird question?

what was the one with “pair” or “pared” also what was the one about wheteher the thing was an endocrine gland or exocrine?

i had no idea plentiful was a word

It’s interesting how this time science was much more knowledge based. Instead of direct reading and answering, you actually had to know some things.

Yeah you did have to know little stuff for the science test. This test made me grateful for AP Chem for the first time in my life lol

I
