October 6 SAT math

no, it wasnt equal thirds. i am sure of that.

damnit. so that is 2 mc wrong for sure, 2 omitted, and 1 student response wrong. who knows how many others i got wrong. i hate sat math. i totally agree with u quantam, math is meant to test ur math, not test your english lol

Quantumpencil, i totally agree. I thought i was a math genius. But then, on the SAT Math, i totally messed up some of the questions. Not because i don't know how to do them! They make questions so tricky and ambiguous. For example, drawing in some random triangle for the diagram, and then asking for the area of a rectangle that's not even on the drawing. :( I put down the area of the triangle for the last grid-in quesion T_T

that question was easy if u had a graphing calc lol. i just found the intercepts using that

what was the question where 145 was the answer? i cant remember if i put that or not

145 was a triangle question. i dont remember the specifics but it was a grid in

i cant remember....what was it?

It just seems to me like the SAT is so based on trickery. Not just the Math section, but the entire test. It's supposed to be a reasoning test, yet there sentence completions are hard for the sole reason that they use ridiculously difficult words you couldn't possibly know unless you read Charles Dickens in your spare time or used flash card; and the Math section is so sneakily worded you often miss questions you know how to do for silly reasons; and get no credit for the thought involved in solving the problems.

It just doesn't seem like an accurate way to measure anything to me, except how good you are at taking the SAT.

Quantumpencil, that's exactly right. It measures how well you can take the SAT. Any dolt can practice and practice and do well eventually.

god i love u quantumpencil. i totally agree. the act is alright, but it's based on how fast you can go. I hate these stupid tests

I think the AP exams are by far the best tests and indicators of college success. They are honest about what they measure, test knowledge of fair greater depth than the SAT, and do so with much less trickery. They even reward you for thought and problem-solving skill instead of just getting the right answer (which is often 1/9 points on free response sections.)

College-board should abolish the SAT I and just administer AP exams with more detailed score reports.

They should test math FFS. Every single question igot wrong i could have easily gotten right. how did i miss that it said it was <0? Geez i dont even know, i remember that problem perfectly. I hope you guys are wrong, and it said =0. How about testing our math, not our ability to read carefully and solve under time constraints.

the 145 one was athe measure of an angle with two other angles that formed a line. one of them was 15 and the other was 20.

Welll, it IS supposed to be a test of readiness for college. Disciplines aren't always isolated and secluded from one another. In fact, they rarely are. You can't forget basic arithmetic whenever you read a passage, and you must always read carefully, no matter what.

That said, I misread on the abc question. It said that it was an integer. I found a number between 104 and 105 and rounded up. My answer worked, but it wasn't really a product of integers.

haha. just remember guys, if that question were a product of real numbers, not integers, there would have been an infinite number of answers, making the scantron impossible to grade! -_-

It's not a test of college readiness though. It's a test of SAT readiness.

Success in college is more related to success in high school, determination/interest, work ethic, and a lot of other things more than it's related to the number of vocabulary words memorized or ability to not make silly mistakes with a 20 minute time-limit.

they should also do something about the time limit. Some people are brilliant, but just cannot think straight under time pressure! What the heck is the point of writing a whole essay in 25 mins! I think your effort diligence are far more important than how fast you can get your work done.

i agree. the only thing that gets me on the math section (math is easily my best and easiest subject) is that on problems, such as that weird find the angle of x with relevance to y, is that if i dont see a solution right away, then i panic, because it is timed etc.

I completely agree that this test, for the math section anyways, is based completely on how readily you can recognize the math problem.
I think the only thing they need to fix is the time limit on math. Theres hardly time to double check, to break down the problem and find a solution, then to solve

But there are those kids who get 800s no matter what, so that's why they never will

everyone who matters knows that there are brilliant kids out there who suck nuts at the SAT. go to a small private school that gives good grants, do an interview and talk about your difficulty with the SAT yet your ability in other, more important fields, and you'll be fine. SATs are not all-important.

please Chone, come to my house, and talk to my parents. This is going to sound completely stereotypical, but as a asian, my parents expect me to be brilliant at math. I get 800 on math, 650 on reading and writing, they dont care. I get 800 on reading and writing, 650 on math, they'll kill me. They don't understand why i cant ace the math section, and honestly, neither do i
