OCU auditions

by the way, good luck to you all. and remember, that ocu's focus is on classical music and you should do a very classical sound in all your selections. although, i will say that since they've added the 3rd song this year, you might get away with doing something more belty or comic. that's just my guess, please be sure. ere on the side of caution. don't every think they can see past anything or figure out that you're talented own their own or hope they'll extrapolate anything from your audition. give them exactly what they are looking for and don't leave anything to chance. they are very selective and don't have to look beyond what they see in front of them.

Hi Jennifer

I look forward to meeting you. My d and I will be at the Saturday performance. D audition is between 4 and 5. Not sure how long the whole process will take. Do you know what time the show starts and if there is any place close by (will not have a car) to grab a bite to eat before the show. I will have a dark brown velvet dress w/boots on and d and I both have dk brown hair. Hope to meet you & look forward to seeing your son perform!

Debbie

chrism, you can send in an audition tape to OCU, but they don't recommend it. Because of my audition schedule last year it was impossible for me to go down, so I sent in a tape. I was accepted, but I really wish I could have auditioned live. But if you simply can't come to campus, then just give Mary a call to discuss sending in a tape.

If anyone coming this weekend wants to talk to a student or get shown around or anything, send me a PM, I'd be more than happy to spend some time with some of the auditioners!

I did speak to Mary this a.m. There is NO dance or piano at the time of the audition. See some of you this week-end. A letter is going out but may not make it on time because of the holiday.

Lexismom

We're so glad to see many of you this weekend.

I look forward to meeting some of you Friday night after "Pirates"! Have a safe trip!

ocuMTinfo--Are you in Pirates Saturday, too? I noticed you said Friday night . . . . My understanding is that the students who audition Saturday get their comp tickets for Saturday. I hope my d is going to see you in Pirates???

mtmommy - I think you'll find our ocu friend having a leading role in Pirates, and he may be too modest to share this.

He also was in Guys & Dolls, which we were fortunate enough to see recently by DVD. He has a wonderful voice! We wanted to go see Guys & Dolls in person, but the weather from hurricane Rita kept us from traveling that weekend. I can tell you that the show was great - very good singers and actors, creative choreography, and wonderful period - oriented set and costumes.

Thanks Ericsmom for your good review! :) I appreciate your kind words very much. We'll see you Thursday!

And mtmommy, I won't be playing the Major General on Saturday. My cast is the opening night show on Friday. But the freshmen student (!! yes..freshmen get cast!!) who plays the Major General on Saturday is great. I will be there..lurking in the audience. I hope you have a great time. We are!

To all those auditioning this upcoming weekend!!!

D, having finally settled down from Elon on 11/4, is again climbing the walls for her chance to audition 11/19 at OCU this Saturday 11-12. She attended the 1 week vocal intensive this past summer and just fell in love with the staff, the students and the facility. This is only audition#2 and I am worn out.Best of luck to all!

Thanks BiGismama and noccadad :) I'm one of the many shipping out to audition on Saturday. From the looks of it, half of the kids there will be from CC!

My D is flying in Friday night and has her audition Sat between 2 and 3. She is going to the show Friday night. I am not able to join her so she will be by herself, but is staying with a current OCU student. Hope she has a chance to meet all of the CC people. Ya'll give her a hug for me if you see her!!

NOCCAMom, Looks like your D has her audition right after me. Haha, so let her know she won't be intimidated by the guy singing before her. (if we can hear eachother at all anyway!)

correction: we have the same audition time. [i should think before i type huh..]

We are getting ready to leave the OC to go to OCU! We are leaving Ca. in a few minutes to go to the airport - long day of travel. Just wanted to wish everyone good luck this week-end and we'll see you there (those auditioning on Saturday).

Lexismom

You are too funny, I am sure that you will be great. I will tell my daughter to say hello!! I hope your audition goes well!!

Good luck to the big CC contingent auditioning this weekend at OCU! I hope many of you meet up which adds to the fun of the experience and takes your mind off what is on the line, lol. Can't wait to hear what the weekend is like for you all.

Lexismom....love the OC to the OCU line!

all the best....Susan

A student of mine who auditioned at OCU today called me after her audition, sooo excited - loved it, went to the PIRATES dress last night and loved that, loved Mary Mowry, loved Dr. Henrendeen (I fear I spelled that incorrectly but don't have time to look it up) - and made such a cute comment, no doubt inspired by today's release of the Harry Potter 4 film. She said that doing her singing audition, with all of the voice faculty seated together in the middle of the recital hall, felt like wearing the Sorting Hat at Hogwarts! She was thrilled with her visit and loves the idea that the voice faculty were listening for voices with whom they individually thought they would like to work, which is different from many other college MT auditions. And of course, she equated studying with Kristen Chenoweth's teacher Florence Birdwell to being chosen for Gryffindor...lol.

Best of luck at the auditions this weekend! I was happy to meet several CC students Friday. And we were excited to have so many of them in the audience tonight for "Pirates of Penzance". The audience was great.

And I hope you got to take a close look at the almost finished $30 million music school. It's almost done!

And...the voice faculty as the Harry Potter staff!! That's a good one. I'll have to share that one and they will love it!

We've returned from the Friday audition at OCU and still love the school and the program. It felt much like home after the 3 week summer program. Even though we had to get back for a choir festival Sat. and didn't get to meet those of you auditioning Sat., we saw a bunch of summer camp friends and met several CC students. What a wonderful group of kids are in that OCU freshman class, connected with the CC! We enjoyed seeing CC contacts that were auditioning and those who are currently students, and most of all enjoyed meeting CC "lurkers" who admit to being lurkers!
