Hey
I was wondering if any one knew what the audition requirements for the musical and opera auditions for the first semester were.
To be sure have selected 6 songs 2 for each show (up tempo and a ballad).
Since both musicals are first semester is the just one audition? Do you need to have the whole song ready for any of the 3 shows or just 16 or 32 measures?

srw's son, you should be receiving "The Broken Leg" newsletter soon. You can also view it on the web site okcu.edu/music/newsletter I think will get you there. If not, go to the music page and click on newsletters on the left. It has a lot of helpful information and audition dates for all the shows.

musicmom,

Thanks, my son found the info on the sight today, and you are right it is full of great info and answers lots of questions! When your student was a freshman did they get their voice teacher asignment before school started?

srw's son's mom

I believe she did, but I don't know how she found out. My D is still asleep this morning, but you can e-mail Mary Mowry. She really does know everything! In my opinion, they could not do without her! She's great.

I agree about Mary, she is great and she does know everything! I hesitate to bother her now, I know they are going crazy getting everything ready. If you think of it ask your D when she found out about her vocal teacher, before school started or when she got there. A friend of ours who will also be a freshman got an email from her's requesting she bring certain materails to class. So we were just wondering if they all do that or just her teacher does.

My D said that she found out her voice teacher from Mary at Stars 101 last year. We went in July. She said he would probably get an e-mail from the voice teacher soon.

I hope so, but I have another question
With the MT auditions do you audition for both shows at the same time with the same two audition songs or do you audition twice in that same day or days with four songs two for each show since they both differ in style so much it was not specified in the news letter about this fact.

They will cast the two shows from one audition, so he will only need two songs. They are such different styles that I can't imagine what they will be looking for. I think my D is preparing a country song and a contrasting MT song. I may be wrong, but I think she usually sings her choice, and then the director may choose one of the others in her rep. Of course, she is not here right now to ask for sure, but she will be back soon. Is your son on Facebook yet? She may have "met" him. Does his name start with B?

Hi, I'm musicmom's D!

Mary told us at Stars 101 who our voice teachers were, & it should also be on your student account page. When you go through "student login" on the OCU website, there is a schedule section. On at least one of the different schedule views, it should have "Applied Voice: Ragsdale" (or whoever).

The first audition will cover casting for both Music Man & Urban Cowboy. At the end of last year, my voice teacher told me to prepare a country song for that audition, & I'm also preparing an up-tempo AND ballad MT piece just to make sure Music Man is sufficiently covered. You never really know what he is going to ask for. In the audition, he'll ask what pieces you brought (which you have also written on your audition info sheet beforehand); sometimes he lets you pick, & sometimes he picks for you. I'm not really sure how this one will work. You will most likely only sing 16 bars or so of the song, but definitely have the entire piece prepared as he might request a certain verse or something (especially true in opera auditions).

Don't stress too much about the audition! Dr. H understands that you're a freshman & that you probably don't have a lot of audition experience & that you're nervous. I do suggest that you sign-up for post-mortems (as he calls them) after auditions to get feedback from him.

I hope this helps! If you have any other questions, I'll do my best to answer them! You can e-mail me if you'd like, since I don't generally check up on CC. I'm at lbaker.stu2@okcu.edu & facebook.

Good luck & welcome!

Hi, musicmom's D!

We found his schedule as was instructed above and he found his voice teacher! finally! I think he sent you an email with a couple of questions. And he found you on facebook and yes his name starts with "B"! Thanks a million for answering our questions. He's not really nervous just wants to be properly prepared, he's always been like that. Well we (he) can't wait! He's been waiting for this moment for the last couple of years!
Thanks again!

No problem!
