I'm afraid the four B's I've amassed will significantly crush my chances, but I have an upward trend to say the least. I also am a first generation Hispanic.

Any thoughts on my chances or tips on what else I could do to increase my chances?

The GPA isn’t high enough and the SAT is a bit low, but the average score so you should be fine for the SAT. Your B’s aren’t crushing your chances. The problem is you aren’t taking enough AP classes. Your schools might offer a limited amount, but I highly suggest you do well in your 12th grade classes. ECs are nice, but do you do other clubs/ work as well?

Well I would have taken 12 semesters of AP Classes, and two of honors. The only other AP’s would have been Physics/Chem, but I instead took different science AP’s. After that would only leave the foreign languages, which I would haave done Spanish had the school offered it in such a way to fit my schedule. the SAT I am taking two more times, so I shall aim for a higher score.

I think your SAT score is fine. I wouldn’t stress too much trying to raise it, unless you know you can do it significantly (>100 points).

Your GPA might be holding back your chances a bit. I would focus more on making sure your personal statements are awesome, and maybe do something significant with your EC and leadership positions.

Lol these respondents have no idea what they’re talking about. Good chance at all the UCs. In at SD and down

You might also want to apply to some of the higher-ranked privates. Probably out at all the Ivies but with applications going down… you never know. ;)

If you’re a Cali resident, I think you’re a strong candidate. OOS will be a reach. GL.

Your UC GPA is low. My older sibling had similar GPA and was not accepted to UCLA.

yolo go to community college and transfer later. HOOOOOOOOMMMBROOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Strengths: Upward grade trend, URM/1st gen, decent SAT (could be higher though to make your app stronger)
Weaknesses: No major ECs. Try to get some leadership or volunteer/work experience. Good luck!

does anyone know the average uc gpa’s of UCLA?

since you’re hispanic, UCLA will more likely accept you! :)

Probably in, or at least a high chance. ^UCs don’t discriminate based on race. Would apply to privates too, since your hook (first-gen Hispanic) will help.

SAT is OK but not great. GPA is a little bit low considering that your load is not that rigorous relative to a typical UCLA applicant. Seriously, just 3 weighted classes in 10th and 11th grade. Also if you are applying to Engineering they might ding you on not taking harder Science classes (AP Physics/Chem vs AP Env). But that’s done, so just focus what’s ahead. Retake your SAT and maybe try the ACT too. Some people score higher on ACT than SAT.

"since you’re hispanic, UCLA will more likely accept you! "
This is not true, all UCs are race blind.
However, being first generation will help you slightly.
Your weaknesses are your course rigor and GPA, but the upward trend will help you.
UCLA: High Match

Why is it better to be CA resident applying to UCLA? (As opposed to oos)

–Atypical Asian–

California taxpayers want their money to help California students and ultimately California itself, so that is why UC schools must prefer UC students over OOS students. There are other reasons too, but that is one.
