This year, I will be a senior at Pickens High School. After researching colleges in Georgia, I have come to believe UGA is the best choice for me. I plan on applying for early action, but I’m not sure how my credentials are. I have taken the ACT once, and I scored a 30 (35 English; 30 Reading; 27 Math; 24 Science; 29 Writing). I have a 3.92 UGA GPA. I have also taken 2 AP/IB courses and 9 honors courses. I have taken the SAT twice, but I have not yet received the scores from either test. I am also signed up to take the ACT one more time.
(I’m not sure of the truth in this, but I have heard that gender and ethnicity slightly tamper one’s odds of admission. Just so it’s out there, I’m male and ethnically 3/4 white and 1/4 Cherokee Indian. However, I have no paperwork verifying my Native American ancestry, so that may be useless.)
What are my odds of admission for early action? If I’m not set for it, what are my odds of admission for regular decision? I know that during regular decision, extra-curricular activities are accounted for, so here are those:
-Beta Club Officer
-Chick-fil-A Leadership
-Marching Band Section Leader
-Academic Team
-Bluegrass Band
-Fellowship of Christian Activities
-Habitat for Humanity
-Interact Club
-Jazz Band
-Percussion Ensemble
-Reading Bowl
-Soccer/Basketball Band
-Summer Apprenticeship in Construction
-Tennis Team
-Visited All 50 States.
In addition, if I am rejected for early action, I plan to get three teacher recommendations (algebra, chemistry, and band teacher). If anyone thinks a different quantity of applications or applications from teachers of different subjects would enhance my application to UGA, please mention that in your reply. If I am not admitted to UGA, I have no concerns regarding admission to any of my backup colleges.
Thank you for your time,
D.S., Omnovia
