ODU or ECU?

I am currently a senior in high school in MARYLAND.
I have narrowed down my choices to ODU and ECU, however I am having trouble deciding which is the better fit. I want to either go into accounting or public health, both schools offer that.
I have visited both campus's, and both have their ups and downs.

ECU
Pros: Cheaper out of state tuition rate ($6,000 less per year compared to ODU), BEAUTIFUL campus, great social life

Cons: Greenville seems SO SMALL and DEAD. I live in a city area, so Greenville seemed like the Boonies to me. This is extremely difficult for me because there may be less opportunities to find a job or internship around the area without traveling so far. Also, the dorms at ECU are smaller compared to ODU.

ODU
Pros: Modern and new dorms/buildings, definitely an up and coming school, close to VA beach, Downtown Norfolk would probably provide more opportunities in finding a job/internship.

Cons: It seems like a commuter campus, i might be mistaken? The social life seems like it may be dull, but i am not sure. I have heard there are parties on 42nd St, but ECU has a greater social life.

As of right now, im feeling ODU solely on the fact that it resides in a large urban setting area, which plays beneficial to finding a job/internship.

My priorities are academics first, but i do want that college experience. CONVINCE ME TO GO TO EITHER ONE!

I think lack of response mostly indicated the community here on CC are kind of surprised you’re from MD and preferred these two school over MD colleges :).
Nevertheless, it seems like a purely personal decision. Your pros and cons are well thought out and it’ll come down to fit and cost, I suspect. Can you go for admitted student days? Can you ask the Admission Office to put you in touch with current students from MD or in your major?

I’m local to ODU. It is becoming less and less a commuter school. I know a young lady who is a freshman there this year who is from Virginia Beach and chose to live on campus for the full college experience. There is definitely a social scene at ODU, but partying does not appear to dominate life there.

I’m from NC. ECU doesn’t necessarily have a fantastic reputation outside of a handful of programs. Be prepared to spend your years with a large amount of people who are more interested in partying than school, and are at ECU because thats all they got into.

ODU is still pretty much a commuter school because many students from chesapeake and va beach go there and live off campus or at home. I’ve heard the business program at ODU is pretty good but it doesn’t have a good reputation in hampton roads, it’s reputation is better in nova and new jersey (lot’s of people from NJ go to odu). I’ve always heard ECU is fun and everyone I know who has gone there has absolutely loved it. I know people that like ODU a lot as well but none seem to match the passion that ECU students have for there school. That being said, ECU does have a major reputation for being a party school

The schools are really similar academically, however odu may have the edge with business. School spirit at odu is getting better thanks to the new football team but being in the heart of a city seems affects the close-knit community feel.
