Hello,

So this was my plan for Sr yr:
AP Calc AB
AP Physics
AP Psychology
AP French
AP English Lit
AP Studio Art
But, now I'm thinking about dropping Studio Art and taking Sculpting CP. Is this a good decision? I feel like I won't be able to handle AP Studio art and complete 29 pieces by the end of the year. Would colleges look at such a random art class negatively? Would it reflect badly on my college app? With applying and filling out scholarship/fin aid stuff and keeping up with ECs, I think AP Studio Art would just add to the stress. Also, I don't pla on majoring in Fine Arts. If anything, I might minor in it. So what say you?
Just for the Record, here are my previous couses:
Gr9: Honors Bio, Algebra 2 H, World History H, English H, Commercial Design CP, French 2 CP
Gr10: Honors Chem, Geometry H, English H, AP US History, Business CP, French 3 CP
Gr11: AP Chem, AP English, Precalc H, French 4 H, US History H, Fine Art 2 CP

Thanks in Advance!!

Studio Art and Sculpting are both in the arts category, so if you don’t want the extra stress, take the sculpting class. I don’t think college officers will view the class as just a ‘random art class’ - to me, it makes you seem more well-rounded and open-minded. If you feel really badly about it, don’t take either class.
Besides, you already have quite a handful of difficult AP classes. It would be nice to have something a bit less stressful in your day. ;)

Thank You. I was just worried about ‘in the admissions.’ I mean, people on this site are taking 10-15 AP courses, and I plan to apply to Ivies as well. I understand that it isn’t just about academics. And, I don’t want to loose out on scholarships b/c I was too tied up w/ APs. So, taking Sculpting won’t reflect badly on my app??

Don’t worry about those people with the 10+ APs. It really all depends on what your specific school has to offer. If you have taken full advantage of AP classes offered in your school, you should be fine. Colleges will know the opportunities available at your school through a school profile.

If you really want the sculpting, I don’t see why you shouldn’t take it. Don’t let the admissions officers/process prevent you from doing what you want to do.

Also for the scholarships - is it possible for you to start filling them out now? If you don’t want to get caught up in schoolwork while doing your financial aid apps, maybe you can at least start hunting down some scholarships that interest you and get a sense of what is needed. That way, you don’t have to cram them all in during that first semester of senior year.

I think I will do that, with scholarships…Thanks
In terms of rigor, my school offers about 22 AP Courses (somewhere around there). People in my school take AP Bio, AP Calc BC, AP Stat, AP Environmental, AP Economics…
Obviously, I can’t take all…
The reason why I didn’t take AP Calc BC, and took AB instead was b/c I also want to take AP Psyche, and w/ BC I would have 2 labs, in addition to the 2 labs in Physics…requiring me to drop Psyche…
