AP Screwup

Heyy,

So my principal told us that he wouldn't approve 6 AP Courses for anyone. Courses that I had originally planned on taking were:
AP Pysch
AP Physics
AP Calc AB
AP French
AP Lit
AP Studio Art
But now I have to drop one AP Course. My three options are:
- Instead of Calc AB, take Calc BC, and then drop AP Psych (b/c in my school Calc BC has 2 lab pds)~ I might drop from AP Studio Art to Fine Art 3 Honors just b/c Studio Art is a demanding class in terms of the work we have to produce
- OR - Drop out of AP Studio Art and take Sculpting

Advice would be GREATLY appreciated.

Thank You!!!

I think the BC and drop psych is the best. That way, you’re still advancing and you’ve taken the highest math possible at your school.

I think that AP Studio Art and AP French are going to be the least impressive when applying to college.

Why:
There are enough people with native FL fluency that a 5 on a language AP is very common and your application will not stand out.

If you are applying to a studio art program then they will not care about an AP class, they will care about your portfolio. If you are not applying to an art program then AP Studio Art will not impress them.

So, it isn’t a smart decision to drop out of AP Studio and into Sculpting? I was leaning more towards the BC side as well. I am just scared that it’ll be hard, especially with college apps and everthing. Can anyonr share their experience APs, apps, and ECs? How did you manage it all?

I would drop AP Psych and take AP Calc BC. Adcoms often see AP Psych as a pretty fluffy AP class, so replacing it with BC (a much harder course) is better.

I would drop the Studio Art class, honestly.

Kudos to your principal. At my school, we have IB, but we have an entire system based off of encouraging/pushing students to take 6 and 7 IB classes at a time.

I agree with everyone else, it may look better. But the question is, 1. can you handle taking AP Cal BC PLUS all those other AP and 2. would you enjoy that year? I mean, many people take AP courses but do not enjoy them and do badly. Take the AP classes that you’ll enjoy the most so that you would still have a good grade in them (since you actually enjoy it).

Honestly, it depends on your interests and which one you think you’ll do better in.

Bummmmmmmp
