If we sent in video auditions, do you guys think that we’ll receive decisions at the same time as everyone else?
Found out yesterday that my DS also made it in- first MT acceptance and we are thrilled!
@jessieburnett in the morning parent info session, they said that all letters will go out on March 7th, and the director was very clear that all letters meant all letters: All acceptances, All rejections, and All wait lists. She paused and ticked the choices off on her fingers and so I assume even video submissions are included in the All Letters plan. Then it’s just a matter of stalking the mailbox for 3-5 days.
My S heard back yesterday!! very thrilled
My notes from the morning session for what it is worth:
Letters should arrive March 10-13 (decision made March 7) [although some people are apparently called as well with acceptances]
Three types of lletters go out: The yes you are accepted as a MT major, the no (but you can still attend Wagner), and the wait list on March 7
240 kids audition. They accept 65 to yield 32.
Each kid is scored formally on talent and informally evaluated on listening skills, body language and energy.
Voice and diction class is part of MT major, so are some dance classes, acting classes
General Education requirements are substantial part of BA degree which is different from other schools that offer a BFA
AP 4 or 5 accepted for gen ed, but not dual enrollment unless an actual college professor taught the course.
Freshman dorm has great views, but that’s about all there is to say about it.
Easy to get downtown, free ferry ride. Free shuttle to ferry.
No guarantee that your kid will be successful in theatre after graduation.
Making the cut to audition is the academic acceptance. No further academic review is necessary.
Minor in education is possible. Double major in education is not a good idea.
Master classes are free on certain Saturdays and they get big names.
In terms of boys vs girls, there are also just far more young women who apply the these programs, according to the schools we’ve visited. My son received a phone call from Wagner last week saying he got in to the MT program. I believe letters should come this week. He is torn between there and Pace, where he auditioned yesterday, and BoCo. Of course, he may not get in to either of those. Any thoughts about your experiences at those schools, if your kids auditioned there? This may be a difficult decision (or not, if there are no more acceptances or $ offered!).
My daughter is a Freshman at Wagner, who reauditioned for the Theatre Performance Program. We are thrilled to say she got in! If you are willing to take the chance and go here it is possible to reaudition and get in. I cannot say enough about how she loves this college and the incredible opportunities she has been given, even as a freshman. There are so many audition opportunities, and they don’t just look at Theatre Performance majors. I would highly recommend Wagner and hope you (or your child, depending on who is reading this) consider Wagner. This place is incredible, not to mention filled with supportive, caring, loving people.
D waitlisted. She is a bit bummed because this is her first choice. The letter said it was a short list, so we will see how everything plays out. She was also awarded the Deans Scholarship which was a nice bonus
@LBSMOM - may I ask how you heard from Wagner?
@MTMHopeful via snail mail. Post dated 3/8. We live outside Philly
@LBSMOM - thank you. Hope your D comes off the wait list.
How was the financial aid? Merit and talent scholarships?
@Luciamom the financial aid was fairly generous for most of the MT students that we know. Only excellent GPA/SAT kids were chosen to audition. All of them were automatically accepted academically, and we just had to wait a short time to find out if the kids were accepted into the program. I can only speak for my son but the founder’s scholarship was very generous and enough to make it comparable to in state tuition. Basically, it seemed as if your kid was strong enough academically to be considered for an audition spot s/he was strong enough to be considered for merit aid.
@Luciamom I echo what @MomofMTBoy stated - Not sure how many apply to MT program, but you have to be academically accepted to Wagner first. They auditioned about 250 ish??? give or take, and wanted to hit an incoming class of around 31-33. D got a very nice academic scholarship and some nice merit money. She will be attending in the Fall and is so excited to be part of the WTC Class of 2021
