I'm a Winter admit.. and I'm looking to get on the waitlist and hopefully get in a dorm, but to be safe I should be moving during the fall.. are most of the apartments for rent monthly lease or yearly or whats the deal?

sign for the year (or 9 months), pay by the month

Houses are variable

Most apartments are minimum 6 month leases

You can look for rooms to rent by existing students that might not require you to sign a lease and can just rent month to month. I think there’s an online place for UCSD students to advertise things like this. You could also check out Craigslist.

most are year-long leases. Some places offer school-year leases (9 months) but you’ll pay more per month at those places. Out of all the places I looked at before I moved in, none offered month-to-month, but you may be able to find someplace.

Try uloop.com for people posting housing availability…a lot of them right now will want someone to move in now or for summer, but more will open up in a couple months for fall and winter

Is there a site that has student ratings of apartment complexes? I want to get a long term lease that my younger sister will take over when I’m done with it. We want a good place that has a lot of students but is still really nice. Also, do students really move furniture around all the time or are these places furnished?

apartmentratings.com

u don’t really need to move in during the fall…i think u should decide where u want to be by november though, and then give them 30days notice. on admit day, i visited “La Scala” apartments and they do a 6month lease, and then u can switch to month to month :D

at “Archstone” apartments even after u sign the lease, u have 30 days to take it back, in case u get offered housing.

the aparments arent usually furnished

and some of the more popular ones that the students go to include
La Scala
La Regencia
Costa Verde
and some others…i have a sheet that lists the apartments, phone numbers, and proximity to the school. if u guys want it i could email it to you xD

basically, there’s this street called Nobel and there’s a bunch of apartment complexes in that area, with a good number of students living in them. a shuttle goes by there also, and there’s a small shopping center for groceries and such that’s maybe…a 20min walk away :]
