Can anyone provide resources / leads for finding an off-campus apartment in New Haven? Thanks!

Thanks, Gibby. Can you suggest any other resources, such as online student bulletin boards, or specific agents, landlords, or apartment buildings? We’ve heard a few horror stories about craigslist, from dubious to downright dangerous.
DS is away now, but iirc, he said that he used FB’s Yale Free and for Sale group.

PS you need a Yale email to join the group
Craigslist is certainly hit-or-miss, but it’s probably the best site there is for New Haven housing. Your other alternative is to walk the streets around Yale’s campus noting the names of building owners and then contacting them directly, but it doesn’t sound like your local.
Yale has many websites that are for students and/or alum only. I would do multiple postings and ask the question. An upperclassman or alum is sure to answer. You may not find a lot of information since the vast majority of Yale students stay on campus all four years. One of my D’s suitemates moved off campus junior year thinking she would save money. However, as a physics major, the time back and forth to her apartment, shopping for food (when they couldn’t sneak her in the dining hall) and preparing it, was too much. She has moved back into the residential college for her senior year. It works for some, but other’s experiences need to be taken into consideration.
In addition to the Free and For Sale group, Yale also has a Housing group on Facebook. Most of my friends living off-campus (during the school year or during the summer) found apartments through there. If you do a Google search, you should be able to find an “Off-campus living” section of the It’s Your Yale site which is also a potentially useful resource. If you want to live downtown, specific apartment buildings to consider include the Cambridge Oxford Apartments, Howe Place Apartments, Crown Towers, or New Haven Towers. For East Rock apartments, the FB groups or other rental sites like Craigslist or Zillow might be your best option.
