Off Campus Housing

I have seen how many people tend to live off campus as upperclassmen and I was just wondering if the prices are less than the room and board price at Tulane. I was accepted and I received merit aid, but the price is still a lot. Are there housing options for less money near the school?

@jhubek, off campus housing tends to run between $700-$900 per month plus utilities. Most leases begin in June, so you would have to pay for the summer months even though you will not be living there. It is possible, to find a summer subletter, but not likely. Also, many students go abroad first semester junior year, so in that case, you would have to find a subletter for the semester. My son paid for June and July and found a subletter for August through December. You need to factor in the cost of paying for summer when comparing the costs to on campus housing. There are many apartment like options on campus for upperclassmen housing.

Another option to consider is to apply to be an RA your sophomore year. You get free housing and credit towards a meal plan. My son did it and it saved us a lot of money.

@jozuko thank you!

@dolphnlvr6 Oh wow! That would be a huge save! Thanks for the information I’ll look into that for sure.
