Can anyone give recommendations about a good off campus apartment complex around UCF. Ideal apartment would have a shuttle to UCF, individual leases, and be as safe as possible? Of course affordable is good too!

I'm currently at Boardwalk and I like it a lot. Not to mention, it has everything you listed:

A shuttle directly from Boardwalk straight to UCF ( no stops on the way ), individual leases, and it's much safer than any campus affiliated housing ( which has a terrible crime rate ). I'd also check out The Lofts ( expensive ) and The Village at Science Drive ( expensive ).

Also, Boardwalk is about $530-$545 a month.

Here is a link to the UCF off-campus housing website:
http://www.housing.ucf.edu/offcampus/files/listings.pdf

The links are all clickable to the apartment complexes and there is a chart to show what amenities they offer.

The thing about Orlando is that we were the 11th most dangerous city so you will hear stories about every housing complex. I am a student here living off campus so I think I have a pretty good idea of where to stay.

-Pegasus Landing has improved a great deal because they have added security gates all over and you have to speak to a guard if you are not a resident. Rent is cheap, there are buses, and in general it is a very affordable place to live. You will hear many things about Pegasus Landing but it has changed a lot with the added security and is a nice place to live.

-Boardwalk and Villages at Science Drive are also very nice but have had some crime lately so it is something to watch out for. Most of the crimes that occur though are because people are not responsible and do things like leaving apartments open and walking in parking lots alone. Most people will never have a problem.

-Pegasus Pointe is a little shady because it has no security really and I would not recommend it.

-There are many nice apartment complexes like Arden Villas and around Waterford Lakes but many of these are unfurnished so those are not an option for most students.

I hope this helps and if you have any questions about specific places let me know.

I second Pegasus Landing. Two of my best friends live in there and I find it quite nice. They live in the back of the complex and their room is still only a 15 minute walk to the north part of the campus (stadium, arena, shops, the Towers, etc.). There are shuttles available, but we've never used them when I visit them so I can't really comment on those.

Check out the Collegiate Village Inn. I live there. It is an off-campus dorm type housing complex. Its small and has the nicest people working there. They are always extremely helpful. Best part is it is an “all inclusive” property so the rent that I pay takes care of everything including a food plan. (beds, microwave, mini-fridge, drawers, closets, sink, bathroom in room, internet, cable, modem with cables and splitter, HOUSEKEEPING!, water, electric–no caps–no deposits, free parking, ucf shuttle) And I dont pay anything extra! only one block from UCF! and the lobby is open 24 hours and they have a computer lab for residents.
Since collegeruled revived this old thread, I would like to ask if anyone knows of any off campus SAFER complexes. Cost is not important. Safety and amenities are important. The more that I read about the off campus housing complexes, the more anxious that I get about the prospect of my daughter living in one. Is collegiate village inn safer (break-ins a rarity)?

Forget Collegiate Villiage Inn for us. It is a private dorm NOT an apartment.

Right now we are leaning toward The Boardwalk and RiverWind Apartments. The Boardwalk has security systems that can be activated. RiverWind is by the Stadium, while most of the other apartment complexs are on the main roads. This is a benefit when it comes to rush hours. Both places are comparable.

We scratched the affliate housing, Pegasus, real fast after monitoring the security log.

We are looking at Boardwalk, Riverwind AND Northgate Lakes (which is walking distance to the stadium). Here are the links to the websites for all three. Anyone have any other insider info on them (management, security, parking, commute to campus etc).

Well Northgates is currently full.

We are looking for NEXT year, my daughter is on campus for this year. We would appreciate any information that anyone has about the above places.

jswdlw, are you on a waitlist for on campus housing? The on campus Towers apartments has had rooms come available every year (for the past three years).

Seiclan,
My s is moving into Northgate Lakes this summer. I’ll keep you posted as to his experience.

zebes

Yes my S is on the waitlist for campus housing.

My friends live in Northgate and they say it is relatively safe. However, the one building that is closest to McCulloch gets broken into more than the others because it’s easy to access without anyone knowing. As for the rest of the buildings they say it is really nice. Just get a building tucked in deeper in the complex.

Latest update for those of you who are trying to find housing. The Edge, Boardwalk, and Riverwind are all completely full for 2009/2010. I spoke with housing and they said they are still struggling to accomdate everyone that they have offerred housing to so while in previous years they had opening come up in August they said don’t wait for it now.

The Gathering has openings… Anyone have comments on them?

I haven’t heard of that one. I looked up its website:

[Welcome to The Gatherings - Apartments in Orlando](http://www.thegatheringapts.com/home.asp)

It looks nice. It is a bit further from UCF (2 miles?) but the floor plan looks nice. Let us know what you learn.

I will keep updating as I find additional properties. I never thought this would be so difficult.

Northgate Lake is full for male students and have just a few female openings in the 4/2 layout.
Same with The Villages on Science Dr.

Here is the myspace for The Gathering… [The Gatherings (Gatherings Apartments) | MySpace.com](Gatherings Apartments (thegatheringsapts) on Myspace) My son went by today and really liked it. They are having a special of $499.00 and all fees waived. Details are on this website. In addition they have a private UCF shuttle. Its a gated community and right off the toll-roll.

The ladies I talked to feel safe and enjoyed living there. Its under new management and just had a face lift to the outside of the buildings. The gentleman who showed my S around lived on site and said he enjoys it as well. Parking is plenty for those with cars but don’t expect to park close to your town house. It is a college community and the photos on the myspace show the fun times. So as expected there will be parties and such. Everything is older so don’t expect anything new. The newest item in the town home is probably the flat screen tv.

Went to see The Lofts today and ended up signing a lease. There were only about a dozen spaces left and my S llked the facility much better than The Gatherings. While The Gatherings had larger rooms my S still chose The Lofts. The price was the same but The Gatherings has a higher cap on utilizes. Everything in The Lofts is newer and certain buildings were just getting new leather sofa and loveseats. My S was a lucky one that will get the new furniture. The Gathering is under new management and is acquiring a private shuttle but no details were provided. All their furniture was purchased last year so this is the second year in use. Knowing that the UCF shuttle stops right in front of his apartment building every 15-20 minutes was nice to know. Both places waived their deposits and move in fees. Oh on a side note… The dorms have twin XL beds while all the apartments have full XL beds. On the full XL beds you can use queen size comforters and such.

For $10/month we got a reserve parking space so he doesn’t have to worry about parking. His apartment is a 4/2 loft and he chose the one facing the inside of the facility over looking the pool, volleyball, and basketball area. Right across the road is Publix and Blockbuster and he is within walking distance of Waterford. He already has two roommates and was able to see their profile cards. One is from NY and is a DJ and the other is from Port Charlotte FL. One is a freshman in his first semester and the other is a sophomore.
