Off Campus Housing

Hello,

I was wondering if anyone knew the best places to live off campus?
(Hopefully close by the UCSC and not SUPER expensive.)

Thanks in Advance!

Try Craigslist, or the UCSC rentals page (if they’ve activated your SlugMail account). The best would probably be to find a small group of students splitting the rent on a three/four bedroom place near the campus.

What do you consider expensive? I’d budget at $600-800/mo depending on the number of housemates and distance from campus.

Well $1500 for 1 Bedroom is wayyy too much. Even if there are everything I could ever ask for. But anyway, I’m basically looking at anything less than $1500.

You can definitely find a studio for ~$1000-1100. It’s less if you share a house with friends, of course. Check out the ucsc housing rentals website for listings.

I’m currently off campus in a really good location and I’m paying around $800 a month. I have friends who have found places for about $500-600 a month (not including utilities) and they are pretty close to the base of campus. Basically check craigslist and facebook around this time because people are graduating, so more rooms will become available soon. Just don’t wait too long or the cheaper housing options will be gone.

As for location, basically anywhere close to campus is good. Those usually include: High St, Nobel, Iowa, Escalona, King. Then theres the westside of SC (I don’t really know those street names) but basically look at google maps and judge for yourself. I’ve seen a few Westside houses/apartments for around ~$500 a month ago and they were walking distance of the base of campus.
