off campus parking

hi- I want tips on off campus parking, I cannot pay the $35.00 parking fee.
I attend irvine valley college, irvine ca.

Oh hey, I attended that community college before I transferred to UC Davis. Do you know the plaza across the street (where the pho restaurant is located)? You can park there and then walk over. Of course, don’t leave your car in the same spot all day. Another place you can park at, but requires a bit of a longer walk (about 15-20 minutes, depending on your walking speed) is the Alton Square Shopping Center on Jeffrey. There’s also a residential area right next to the college.

The parking permit should only be $15 during the summer, though, not $35, unless you’re talking about the parking permit for fall semester.

what about the neighborhood next to the college by voyager bible church? do you think too many students will park there?
also I think the others lots are private parking, will I get towed?

If the area around UCI is any indication, businesses take non customer parking fairly seriously. One way I avoided that (no idea if it will work at areas around IVC) was putting an Emory University bumper sticker on the back of my car so cops would drive by, see I wasn’t affiliated with UCI, and ticket someone else.

Is carpooling feasible? Many of my friends at Saddleback do this, and it certainly saves on gas.

@ ryivc2: There are signs at a few parking spots in the plaza across the street from the college that says “no IVC student parking”, but they won’t know you’re an IVC student if you don’t have an IVC parking permit on your dash. How many classes do you have per day? If you have a large gap between classes you can walk over and move your car to a new spot. I’m extremely familiar with that plaza and know that there are spots that don’t say “customers only”. Also, while some spots in the shopping center lots are private (they’ll have a sign that say something like “manager only” or “customers only” ), not all of them are–at the Alton Square Shopping Center, you can park in front of Ralph’s, and those lots aren’t private. Shopping center lots are mainly public lots. I’ve seen cars parked in the same spot for more than 2 hours, and besides, signs that say “customers only” have a stated time range for which the sign is in effect.

You can’t park at Voyager Bible Church, it’s not authorized according to the notice on IVC’s campus map. I did mention the residential area right next to the college, though. Just be sure not to block anyone’s driveway.
