Got a call and an email from admissions saying they are offering me an acceptance for the Fall and I have until April 3 to let them know if I accept this offer. I do not have to pay deposit until May, but they want an answer by Friday. I moved forward to my other choices since I was waitlisted here, now I have to rethink things again. Anyone else have this happen this way?

You should have until May 1 to make this decision, according to the NACAC guidelines. I know Elon wants a decision so they can continue to work on their entering class, but they know the guidelines, and if they did not clearly tell you about your right to request an extension I am very disappointed.

Formally request an extension. The specific language is:
[quote]
When You Are Offered Admission:
• You have the right to wait until May 1 to respond to an offer of admission
and/or financial aid.
• Colleges that request commitments to offers of admission and/or
financial assistance prior to May 1 must clearly offer you the opportunity
to request (in writing) an extension until May 1. They must
grant you this extension and your request may not jeopardize your
status for admission and/or financial aid.
• Candidates admitted under early decision programs are a recognized
exception to the May 1 deadline.

Thanks for the info. No mention from them about any extension, just that I have to give them an answer by tomorrow.

If you really aren't ready to make a decision, go ahead and send them an e-mail requesting an extension. Couldn't hurt.

VASoccer, Did you let them know your interest level and/or send additional info (recommendations/honors/grades, etc) to your application? My son was waitlisted and Elon is his first choice, so he's hoping to get an offer. He wrote to his admission counselor and his guidance office will send new grades. Is there anything else he should be doing?

Eaglesmom09...

My D was waitlisted too! We called her admissions counselor. Best word of advice is for HIM to follow up with his admissions counselor weekly. Yes weekly. Apparently, expressing interest in the school is critical. Of course, any enhancements to grades, awards, etc. is important too. Good Luck!

Eaglesmom09- I actually did not do anything at all once they waitlisted me. I took the waitlist as a no, and moved on with my other choices. I was surprised when they contacted me and wanted an answer within two days. Kinda weird.
I did let them know that I will not be attending Elon in the fall. Hope you get a call soon, good luck!

Thank you for your repies, VASoccer and NEMom72. My son got a call from Elon last week and has sent his deposit! I think we toured 15 colleges in all and Elon was at the top of his list from the very beginning. He is very happy and relieved to have the whole college admission process behind him and is looking forward to being a member of Elon’s Class of 2013.
