Offered help with interview, is this a scam?

"I saw you were just admitted to USC and interviewing for a merit scholarship.

Want to know more about what the experience will be like? Need help prepping for the interview? Want the inside scoop on if taking a scholarship from USC is the right choice for you?

I am a Junior International Relations major at USC that is not only a recipient of the USC Trustee Scholarship (Full tuition), Herrick Endowed Scholarship, and the Gold Family Scholarship, but has also sat on a Dornsife Mork/Trustee/Presidential Scholarship interview panel two years in a row.

Set up a Skype consultation with me and you will be better prepared than your peers.

Acing this interview may very well be the difference between you and over $160,000 worth of world-class education.

To schedule an appointment email me at jreorange@gmail.com"

He's charging $20 an hour, is this even allowed?

It doesn’t matter whether it is a scam or not - The information you will find on madbean’s thread http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/university-southern-california/1597366-tips-insights-observations-and-scoop-on-usc-s-top-merit-scholarships-p1.html</a> will be more useful AND it is free.

Please have confidence in yourself - YOU earned the nomination! YOUR application is the one that stood out. YOU. Presenting yourself in the mold of someone else would be a mistake.

If you got that via a private message here on this site, I think that would violate their terms of service.

Report it to the University.

I got the same message. It undoubtedly violates the terms of service on CC, and certainly doesn’t reflect very well on the integrity of a student who has so many awards.

I got the message as well. Just hit the “Ignore” button on their profile.

Oh my gosh! I would definitely report this to USC. This person sits on the interview panel and is selling the information he gleans from that opportunity?

Definitely a scam. No trustee scholar would be stupid enough to risk their scholarship by engaging in under the table negotiations which would undoubtedly be frowned upon by USC.

The interview is to confirm that you are the student described in your application. Be yourself, present yourself professionally, convey your passion and enjoy your visit! USC has a vibrant student body and I suspect they are looking for someone who would be a good fit.

Please report to USC. It looks like a scam meant to prey on the vulnerable.
