Welcome aboard MikeH14 and congratulations on your appointment!!!

Marmadillo, I will try and get son to email you or something.

MissouRAH

beam6 - the only thing that my congressman said about pending appointments was, "Please be aware that my nomination is only the first step toward achieving an appointment; final determination will be made by the Naval Academy in the Spring." I actually found out about my offer of appointment two weeks ago from my BGO when I asked her how long it would take for me to get a medical waiver. She replied saying that it had passed and that I would be receiving an official letter soon. Interestingly, I got a letter from the assistant crew coach (congratulating me and notifying me of crew opportunities) before I got my official letter from the Academy. Good luck to everyone who is hoping for an appointment!

Thanks nea--My son's appointment came earlier this week. We just thought it was odd that he had not and still has not been notified of the nomination given by the congresswoman. He also found out about his appointment from his recruiting coach. Bottom line is you guys have your appointments!! Congrats and good luck to all still waiting.

nea - you row crew? I will be rowing if I am accepted to the academy. My father row for coach Clothier and he had recruited me a few years ago, but I still had some maturing to go. Now I'm ready to powerhouse some boats down the Severn.

Does anyone know where I can order cards to announce a Naval Academy appointment? I would like to have them printed with USNA logos, emblems, etc. I've searched on the net, but not having any luck. I wonder if there's a copyright restriction.

fergsonfire - actually, i am not a rower. in fact, i have never rowed in my life! which is why i thought it was pretty funny that i got a letter from the asst crew coach. my main sport right now is rifle, which i hope to continue at annapolis. good luck with your appointment.

Please allow me to submit my $0.02 worth here re crew at USNA....

My daughter is being recruited by the women's team...and that is not what I would like to address here...although they adhere to the highest standards, as does the men's team...

The experiences I have had with the USNA men's team are unforgetable...

The men's team are some of the most formidable athletes out there --

We were at a fall regatta -- the Navy Day Regatta in Philadelphia...our 16 yr old daughter was coxing a men's masters 4 for her rowing club...
My husband and I were seated by the seawall...blankets, coolers, chairs, etc.. surrounding our "spot"... the Navy mids came up along side us, and asked if they were blocking our view--and moved to allow us to watch the event.... ARMY cadets -- 30+ strong-- came up and stood in front of us...DIRECTLY in front of us...mind you, we are all "crew" people...when I asked them to move, they refused.... I said then, that there was no way on this planet that anyone I knew would ever go to WestPoint...

When we were at the Head of the Charles Regatta, the Navy crew exemplified EVERYTHING that make up midshipmen, and we were so proud.

If you have the opportunity....JOIN THE USNA CREW TEAM...

mamasparrow- thank you for your 2 cents. i will certainly consider joining the navy crew team. when i go for my cvw in april, i'll talk to the crew coaches. i'm glad to know that you think so highly of the crew team.

nea714--when I was in high school, I shot on a college rifle team---at 15 was an "Expert Sharpshooter"....

Take a look at the men's crew team....they are incredible, as are the women...

But you can't go wrong on Navy's Rifle Team...

They are all the "Best of the Best" ....

nea714 - What type of rifle? Navy has a screamin' good precision team

Wish they had it at USMMA but they cancelled the program the year my kid went. He shot in Navy Nationals as a Senior & got his expert like MamaSparrow at an early age. I kinda miss it....

MamaSparrow - you rock!

Jamzmom- i shoot an anschutz 1907 with 2213 stock. i started about 3 years ago and i've completed distinguished expert for the NRA's youth qualification program. unfortunately my school doesn't have a rifle team, so i've been doing 4H and club rifle.

Nea- My son shot a Feinwerkbau but really really wanted an Anschutz. Are you in the sporter division? Shame your school doesn't have a program to be closer at hand for practices. But so great you can compete through 4-H. I thought he'd go for USMMA pistol team but he says thats a whole nuther animal. He began shooting sporter then his coach moved him to precision. That gear is wild and weighs a ton. Do you compete through USA Shooting at all or just NRA postal matches?

Definitely a red state thread...I'll stick to wrestling, swimming, and crew!

<<< former nationally ranked swimmer, and now I will hopefully be rowing for USNA

Good for you fergie it's a great sport even if you haven't rowed before. I would bet half the kids who row in college never did previously.

Fersonfire, why'd you quit the swimming. What was your best events/times?
