Officer December 10th ACT Test Thread

Hey, all you December 10th takes subscribe to this thread and lets gather up as much info as we can to be prepared for the test. I need to work my butt off this week to get ready since its my first/last time and I need to score really high to replace my SAT's.

Material I have:

The Real ACT Book
Princeton Review: Cracking the ACT

Plan:

Take Full Length practice test tomorrow morning
Review all my answers

During the Week - Break the last test in The Real ACT book up into 4 sections...1 each day - review all answers and Review PR Book

Follow the same format with Material / Study Plan

All Previous High ACT Scorers if you can provide your tips that would be great!

"Officer"....official, maybe?

I'm not a high scorer but am also taking ACT this december.

I'm aiming for a 32 hopefully. I got a 27 last year but didn't study at all. I really need to prep this week but I've got finals. I'm planning on maybe taking a practice test tomorrow, wednesday night (after Calc final), and thursday. Probably some last minute cramming Friday.

What I really hate though is that I get the prep books from the library and a bunch of people write all the answers to the practice tests in the actual book! Lazy bastards should just get a piece of scratch paper. it's not that hard.

Good luck for Saturday!

Also, do you know if we'll get our scores before the holidays?

Sorry for the typo in the header...I just wokeup from napping and I'm really sick lol. Is there a way to fix it? I tried editing title but it only fixed it within the thread. Oh well...Yeah I know what you mean postmaster.

Lets keep this thread alive i'm sure we all need valuable tips :).

I really need to improve my English and Reading score on the ACT. Any suggestions? I have official book and PR for ACT.

Bump.......................................KEEP THIS THREAD ALIVE

My son has taken the ACT three times. As a sophmore, he scored 25 E, 25 M, 23 R, 27 S with a composite of 25, As a junior, he scored 26 E, 29 M, 21 R,
28 S with a composite of 26. He knew he had to bring his Reading and English scores up since he was applying to the USAFA and USMA.
I found out that a local branch of Ohio U. offered a 6 class Crash course to the ACT (Princeton Review's Crash Course for the ACT). I was able to get him in the same night the classes started. (He was not real happy about it)
The great news.... his scores JUMPED to 30 E, 29 M, 30 R, 33 S with a composite of 31 on the 10/2005 test date.
My son said that the course explained many stategies on how to read the test, time management during the test and not being afraid to GUESS.
He has now been accepted to OSU and BGSU. He just recieved Congressional
Nominations to the USAFA and USMA.
The cost of the classes was only $80. This was the BEST return on investment. The paperback book can be found at most larger bookstores or online. Best Wishes to all.

Thanks for your advice. I already have the PR for the ACT, but there's no ACT prep course around my area.

Thanks mom...I just did a science section timed...1st ever and got a 25...I had to guess on the questions for a whole passage because of time. The questions were pretty easy, but 40 questions in 35 minutes is steep. Any tips on how to work faster? I'm really slow on standarized tests. And the book you are talking about...is it Cracking the ACT (by PrincetonReview)?

My strong points are Math and English...scored 34 on Math and English 31 which I can bring up to the 33-34 range with a little more attention.

Reading and Science are trouble w/ time...I'm learning how to skim the Reading to get the gist and answer questions since they r relatively straightforward. Any tips on SPEED? Thx

My son said you should not read the science passage and go right to the questions. refer to the passage for hints and move fast, guess if you have to. don't poinder your answere choice.

Okay...I guess I'll just have to practice working fast - I didnt read the passage and did refer back...but I did it casually and took my time. I'll try speeding up the pace a bit. Congrats to your son btw.

I got a 35 composite somehow, with a 35 in science and a 36 in reading. I would say don't gloss over the science passage/go straight to the questions because understanding what is going on makes the questions much easier to answer. You really kind of just have to be fast, since you're racing against the clock...sorry if that doesn't help. The reading comp is really simple because of the whole no vocabulary thing.

Are the scores we get on the PR practice test similar to those on the real test?

And when do we get the scores?

oh, and you know that little paper that we got in the mail...do we have to write anything on it or something? I know we have to bring that and an ID to the test...anything else?

You can check the scores early online (I think it's like 2 weeks or so after the test date.) They charge you $8 for every time you check it. Otherwise, you have to wait a couple more weeks for them to send it to you in the mail.

are there any questions on the test that you thought you got wrong. Post the question so others can say what they put.

On the math section, there was a question where there were I think seven circles, with some circumference, overlapping at the centers. A bold flower type shape was the overlapping parts. The question asked what the length of the overlapping parts was. I almost completely guessed because I accidentally started day dreaming in the middle of the math section and barely finished it in the first place. That was the only math question which I didn't know though.

Yeah, that elyptical(sp?) circle question messed me up.

I forgot what I put for that one. I remember that it was the last choice, and that the equation equals to one. What about the question with all the circles in it. I got 48 pi for that one. Did anyone else say that.

Are there any other questions people had on the test. Post it and I will respond to it.

was english as easy as i thought it was?
