My step-uncle is a Colonel in the reserves, and I was wondering if his recommendation would sway the attitudes of the admissions office in my favor by a great amount. I get good grades, am athletic, and performed well on standardized tests, but am curious if that would be the kicker, or if it’s totally irrelevant.

I have yet to talk to him about it, but will this summer as my attitudes and aspirations have taken a sudden change since the last time I visited him.

Thanks for any information!

I’d say irrelevant based on getting a recommendation from a Colonel. A good recommendation from a teacher or a coach would go further if it means more based on more extended interaction. Does that make sense?

Okay…

Won’t matter any more than would a coach, teacher, minister, etc. In truth…he’d be better to write a recommendation to your congressman/senator.

HOWEVER…understand that a letter from a family member will be naturally viewed as “potentially biased” for obvious reasons.

It won’t hurt, but it won’t “sway” anyone either.

Don’t like to be a “kill-joy” just telling you how it is…
