I have begun to ask my teachers to write recommendation letters that I can use them for the academy/ scholarships/ other schools. Two of my teachers toady asked today what the address for the Air Force Academy was, so that they could give me one letter for the academy and on without an address. I was not sure what address to give them. Should I address it to the admissions office, or my USAFA Counselor, or the Academy itself? I tried researching the address; however I came up with nothing.

Also, how important are recommendation letters for the actual nomination and application process?

Well, I applied online, and they had these online evaluation forms that I needed to have three of my teachers fill out. The only recommendation letters I had written were for the congressional nominations, and you can find the address they want you to use on their websites somewhere.

ya for the AF academy you apply online. Like Craznes said, you'll have an online evalutaion form and when you get to that part you will write those teacher's emails on the admissions website. Your teacher will recieve an evaluation and once they fill it out and send it back, the Academy will process it. Good luck.

Tell the 3 teachers who will be writing a USAFA recommendation letter that when you apply online, you will list them with their school email address. USAFA will contact them immediately via email. You can track online to see who has and who has not turned in the letter. They will automatically send the teacher another reminder after 30 days.

Some high schools want to have all letters go through the counseling office. If that is the case, still list them online. There will be a form with instructions that you can download and give to the counseling office or the teacher. They can also attach a letter to this. Then have the counseling office send it in.

For the nominations, each MOC has different requirments. Download their application and requirements. Some MOC's have a form and some have a letter. This is what my son did:

Give each person who will be writing these nomination recommendations a little packet including:

Specific instructions for each individual member of congress, including your full name, forms if required, and an envelope addressed to the nominating MOC. If the MOC requires a form, you should enter your name and SSN if required onto the form, just so you know for sure it is not overlooked. Also, have them sign across the back seal of the envelope. Ask them to return all letters in sealed and signed envelopes. Give them a larger envelope with your contact info in it, addressed to you and stamped (extra postage if needed). Then you send these all in with your complete nominating package.

Also, an USAFA ALO told my son that the Admissions Board will accept up to 4 more letters of recommendation on top of the 3 teacher recs. Simply include in your instructions above a request for a letter to USAFA admissions, an envelope, etc etc.

If you give your recommenders clear and concise instructions...with a DEADLINE, you will get a very good response. Oh, and make your deadline very early!

Good Luck.
