Decision: Rejected (CAS)

Stats:[ul]
[] SAT: 1390

[] GPA: 3.9
[] Rank: No class rank but top 10%
[] Other stats: AP Comp Govt- 5
[/ul]Subjective:[ul]
[] Essays: Good (not superb though)
[] Teacher Recs: One very good, the other good
[] Counselor Rec: Very good
[] Hook (if any):
[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: Maryland
[] School Type: Private (Catholic)
[] Ethnicity: white (probably my undoing)
[] Gender: Male
[] major strength/weakness: I guess my weakness was not having one definate strength.
[] why you think you were accepted/rejected/defered: I don't really know, I guess I should have applied to Steinhardt rather than CAS (seems to be a little easier). I guess my stats were on the lower end, and therefore I was left out.
[] Likely? If so, which (Sunday at the Square, University Day, etc):
[/ul]Other Factors:

I doubt you are the first rejection...more likely just the first to post about it. It seems like accepted and waitlisted candidates are far more apt to post on a forum like this.

will8587,

you say that you should've applied to steinhardt because "it would have been easier to get in", but what would you have majored in? steinhardt is for education and a lot different than CAS, so the only reason that steinhardt is "easier" to get into is because less people apply to NYU for education, and those with high stats are often tempted by more highpaying jobs, those of which you need a degree from stern or CAS to obtain.

-katrina-

I agree Treexoxo. It is common knowledge that high paying jobs [stuff in corp. world and wall street] usually require a biz or liberal arts degreee If I go to NYU, I'd be an econ and math major in CAS. teinhardt is less competitive since NYU is a pretty expensive school, and normally people wouldn't want to pay so much in tuition if they aren't eventually going to get it back in the form of nice paychecks after graduation.

I don't know how to do all that fancy red bold lettering :(

[] Likely? If so, which (Sunday at the Square, University Day, etc): University Day
[/list]**Other Factors:[ /b]
Stoked about financial aid! I had heard NYU was stingy so I wasn't really expecting anything, but I got a 10K scholarship!!! And of course, a 10K loan but whatever...still psyched about how much I got.

Katrina, I completely understand. The toughest part is getting into NYU, I imagine it would be much easier transferring between schools once you're in. For example, Stern has the highest standards, so if one had marginal stats (below Stern's standards) but reallly wanted to attend NYU, they would logically apply to the easiest (or one of the easier) schools to get into. Once they were into NYU the rest wouldn't be so difficult. That's all I was saying, just looking some of the earlier posts it looked as if Steinhardt's standards were lower than some of the others schools'.

Jwblue, of course I'm not the only rejectee. I was just commenting on how I was the first in the 3 page thread to be rejected.

Other Factors: international financial aid applicant, with no aid offered whatsoever, so it doesn't look good for me and NYU. :/

Decision: Waitlisted CAS

Stats:[ul]
[] SAT: 1320 (670M/650V)
[] SAT IIs: 750 U.S. History/690 Writing/660 World History/640 Biology-E/610 Math IC/560 Chemistry

[/ul]Location/Person:[ul]
[] State or Country: Long Island, NY
[] School Type: Public (Small-to-medium w/about 900 students)
[] Ethnicity: White
[] Gender: Male
[] major strength/weakness: Good test scores in the major I applied to (Politics) and tons of ECs with lots of leadership.
[] why you think you were accepted/rejected/defered: The applicant pool was stronger than ever this year, so I don't blame NYU for waitlisting me. Sure, it's been the only school I've been able to picture myself at since around 1998, but at least I wasn't rejected. I don't think I could've handled that.
[] Likely? If so, which (Sunday at the Square, University Day, etc): Nope
[/ul]Other Factors: I think that my application was solid, but nothing outstanding. If I had a hook it would've worked better or maybe I wasn't from NY (NYU tends to be tougher on NY students) or I had done a little better on my SATs. But overall, I can't say that I'm ecstatic, but I'm certainly not disappointed with my letter.

Decision: ACCEPTED (CAS)

Want to go to NYU because of their Law/Business/Journalism programs and those jobs call out for OPPORTUNITY and BIG CITIES.

Teacher Recs: Good. (I think, waived right to read them)
Counselor Rec: Either spectacular or really awful.
Hook (if any): None. No alumni, no one I know from NYU, nothing.

Location/Person:
State or Country: Gainesville, FL
School Type: Public (large)
Ethnicity: Asian
Gender: Female
major strength/weakness: lots of extracurricular, lots of volunteer, summer internship

why you think you were accepted/rejected/defered: Applied way back in September

Likely? If so, which (Sunday at the Square, University Day, etc): University Day

Other Factors: Most likely attend if University Day has strong impact. Have received financial aid which covers 50% total costs, but aid includes a LOT of loans.
