Of the 15,373 applicants in this year’s pool, 406 students indicated they wanted to participate in the second round of Early Decision. The selection process for EDII completed last week and decision letters left Bendetson Hall this morning. From this competitive pool, 118 students were admitted bringing the total number of students admitted through both Early Decision programs to 432. Of the remaining EDII applicants, 101 were deferred to Regular Decision and the rest were denied.

I got deferred with a
2230 (800 verbal, 720 writing, 710 math),
33 Act
Lots of EC's that were consistent
good essays and letters of rec's (including one from congressman)
Top 10 % ranking

This is rediculous- im definetly appealing this decision cause the last thing i want is to end up in like American U or another school like that.

Sorry to hear that, Ninjaman. You know, a deferral can also turn around -- send supplementary materials, let the adcom know you're truly serious about Tufts.

I don't understand the deferral, either Ninjaman. Those are great scores. Do you think there could be anything in the recommendations or essays that they might have issues with?

I think you should ask your GC to call and speak with your specific admissions rep. at Tufts to see what they have to say. I think we were told that there are two admissions reps. who look over each application and pass on their recommendations, but I could be wrong. At the very least, I don't see how it could hurt to have your counselor or even another teacher put in a good word for you.
I still bet you have a good shot during RD, though. Good luck!

I would say this proves that SATs+Grades do not make your application. They help, but they don't decide anything. Good luck in the regular pool.

I did the optional essay portion which may have helped, and I suppose good recommendations and other essays, etc. but I can't believe some of these other people that didn't get in...
