Official 2008 Housing Assignments Thread

grimes has three floors - only the second is girls.

Horton is fun. The basketball players live in the basement floor and that is a pretty big deal. A lot of my friends lived in Horton last year. The rooms are pretty nice and air conditioned. You have only two rooms to a suite so there’s less people using a bathroom but you have to clean your own. You’re really close to the Smith Center (where the basketball games are) and they just put a bus stop right in front of Horton.

cobb!
from what i read it seems maybe somewhat cold and socially restricted.. insight!?
i’m ready to change that when i get there, if i have to single handedly! either that or get a room change…

Last year most of the honors first years were in Cobb. The doors don’t stay open so a lot of people break their doors to make socializing easier.

Aside from that, though, Cobb is known as one of the really social north campus dorms - their common space is the bomb. It’s right near the forest theater and tennis courts, too, if you’re interested. I like Cobb a lot.

I have a few friends that lived in Cobb (and are staying for next year) and they are certainly not reserved socially.

people breaking their doors… a very good sign!

I’m in Whitehead!! Yay north campus!

odum, own room with one other room mate plus air!!!

Koury! First floor, with air. Is anyone in, or have any knowledge of, The Carolina Experience (learning program, not just the ‘experience’ of being at Carolina. I expect to figure out that much on my own.)?

The rooms in Cobb are totally fabulous, as is the building itself, but it’s setup is pretty close to that of a high-security fortress–you need a key to get ANYWHERE and if you get locked in the basement (where there are several lounges and a really, really nice movie room) with no key, your cell phone won’t even have service for you to call someone to rescue you. Not that I know from experience ;)

I’m living in Grimes next year! Super psyched!

I got locked in the basement of Cobb once!! During the superbowl they were having a party. I had to just chill and wait for someone to come get a soda. Hahah. It IS a fortress.

is there a basement in Hinton James?

Get a door stop for Cobb. The doors are heavy and shut automatically like hotel rooms ergo no one keeps their doors open so less social. P2P does not go by CObb so you should be careful at night…either walking behind other dorms or down the sidewalk near admissions. hopefully they will do something about that.

My D1 got Spencer w air, D2 Odum village apt. both with air.

**South Campus students…just please be careful crossing Manning whether you are in a crosswalk or not. Buses are wild through there and I nearly was hit in the crosswalk walking with the light. A student was killed this May while running. Just an extra be careful when you are sleepy after those long study nights, ahem. Keep your head up and be alert…on Manning. I’d like to see some speed humps slow that traffic down or pedestrian crossing bridges.

Hey Atlmom, I’m in Spencer too!

Parker, which is apparently all female? I guess it is centrally located though and it does have air conditioning—anyone know anything about life there?

Heathergee, how exciting. She is an OSS also…a rising sophomore. She was at HJ last year and is going to enjoy the proximity to classes and town…I will try to remember to get her room number and info and send to you. Spencer is an interesting Hall. I do know she is on 3rd floor and has a/c. congrats!!!

I’m on the 4th floor and also a rising sophomore coming out of Ehaus. I wonder if we know each other haha

kenan community party woohoooo!!!

i didn’t know they had a 4th floor, you must get the dormers…interesting.
I will pm you …

mciver 3rd floor
