Official 2008 INTEL STS Thread

haha, ya, I let my college know too, but I didn't send them anything; I just emailed my interviewer and he said he was going to pass it on. I mean, I don't think it's a big deal if you don't send them the certificate, since the semi's names are posted online anyway (right =D)

Finalists, congratulations! All of you who have received the title deserves it.

It's unfortunate (for me I mean) that I wasn't one of them, but that's ok, since Semis are pretty amazing too!

So yes semis please don't be in a sullen mood, we've all made it pretty far! (That's part of my self-consolation as well hehe)

It'd be nice if Finalists can blog their experience at DC for others to learn about... hint hint ;]

Jing

Didn't get it.

Man, that stings.

lol at least you got something

I am really suprised that no one made it from california seeing as it is such a big state, but congrats too all you finalists!

YAY FINALISTS! Yay for all of the New York people (MAN there were many)!

Yay for semis too! I concur with junior, at least we got something . . . . =D

to notify colleges, I gave my certificates to my guidance counselor, who put them in my midyear reports.

ahhh that's good. would balance out my B in bio :P

mathwiz,
That's a great idea.

Ah one of my really good friends got finalist! My school has 2 finalists, exciting stuff.

@piccolojunior, I know I shouldn't gripe and being semifinalist is amazing and all, but I was really hoping to be a finalist. I thought that were was really a good chance I would make it, and even though I did do well, I'm still sort of disappointed.

How are there 0 finalists from California and 0 finalists from Illinois but 15 from New York?

Because NY > all

are you guys doing intel isef?

I am from NYC. 2nd round of NYCSEF is scheduled for the 10th.

I missed the entrance deadline for New York State. I was soo mad because I only missed it by a few days, and obviously nobody at my school does science fairs so I didn't even know when it was! I guess it puts less stress on me then. Oh well.

so i went to another local high school near me, and they had a large poster/sign hung up in their main office saying, "Intel Science Talent Search Semifinalist School" or something along those lines. Do you think they made it themselves?

how long did you guys work on your projects? on your final papers?
Does STS look at each applicant hollistically, putting into consideration each applicants school, family, environment background (URM or first generation, underrepresented state in STS)?

@eason:
No, Intel gives those out itself. There is even space for pre-made stickers to be up displaying in which year(s) that school got semifinalists.

@intelligentimp:
STS cares a lot less about those background factors a lot less than college admissions do.

Question about being chosen as a semifinalist. I know there arent many physics projects that are chosen for the 300 semis, but if I did a project on quantum entanglemetn and special relativity showing some paradox but no solution, does anyone know whether I would have a decent chance for being a semifinalist?
