haha, ya, I let my college know too, but I didn't send them anything; I just emailed my interviewer and he said he was going to pass it on. I mean, I don't think it's a big deal if you don't send them the certificate, since the semi's names are posted online anyway (right =D)

Finalists, congratulations! All of you who have received the title deserves it.

It's unfortunate (for me I mean) that I wasn't one of them, but that's ok, since Semis are pretty amazing too!

So yes semis please don't be in a sullen mood, we've all made it pretty far! (That's part of my self-consolation as well hehe)

It'd be nice if Finalists can blog their experience at DC for others to learn about... hint hint ;]

@piccolojunior, I know I shouldn't gripe and being semifinalist is amazing and all, but I was really hoping to be a finalist. I thought that were was really a good chance I would make it, and even though I did do well, I'm still sort of disappointed.

I missed the entrance deadline for New York State. I was soo mad because I only missed it by a few days, and obviously nobody at my school does science fairs so I didn't even know when it was! I guess it puts less stress on me then. Oh well.

so i went to another local high school near me, and they had a large poster/sign hung up in their main office saying, "Intel Science Talent Search Semifinalist School" or something along those lines. Do you think they made it themselves?

how long did you guys work on your projects? on your final papers?
Does STS look at each applicant hollistically, putting into consideration each applicants school, family, environment background (URM or first generation, underrepresented state in STS)?

@eason:
No, Intel gives those out itself. There is even space for pre-made stickers to be up displaying in which year(s) that school got semifinalists.

@intelligentimp:
STS cares a lot less about those background factors a lot less than college admissions do.

Question about being chosen as a semifinalist. I know there arent many physics projects that are chosen for the 300 semis, but if I did a project on quantum entanglemetn and special relativity showing some paradox but no solution, does anyone know whether I would have a decent chance for being a semifinalist?
