Thanks for the quick response. However, the other guy's problem was that he hadn't hit the submit button, but I accidentally did press the application forwarding button. It's not a glitch, just a mistake on my part, so I really really really hope the questbridge guy emails me back saying he can undo it somehow!!

Question from an int'l student: If I can't use College Match Program even if I become a finalist (at that point I won't even rank at all), then can I send ED to my college indenpendently?

I need to do one more essay and I'll be mostly done. While I finished my biographical essay, I may change some portions of it before the deadline. I do know how you guys feel; I've been racking my brain for weeks trying to find good essay topics.

Would writing essay #1 on environmentalism (I can make it personal) and writing essay #2 on community service be fine? I'm worried that there's too much overlap, but I have no other ideas for my essay. I'm very passionate about both the environment and community service.

OK....so i m officially going to start my app TODAY, more or less from scratch (i did the CPS last yr too). i m so worried that i wont be able to get it done!

I am applying through QB right now and i was wondering if I can use the qb college match and still apply to other non-binding schools through early action??

Also, my family earns about 30k a year, i heard that families with less earnings are more likely to be matched with colleges. how likely are my chances? should i continue with qb or should i just apply to schools like mit, cit and chicago through their own early action programs?

so im w/ the group of international students (my mom just got her green card but i wont be getting mine they said at least for a couple of months) and on the qb app. i wrote i was in the process. w/ respect to the satII and act scores do i send them to qb when they come in or do i send them to the colleges i want to apply to. see i cant be matched to any of the colleges anyways (except for like princeton stanford etc the schools i dont think i have a shot at at all). so my question is do i submit my scores to qb or to their partner colleges i want to apply to rd? also my school offers itv courses w/ a neighboring university. one of my teacher reccs. is from my prof. is that alright? i mean at this point i cant really change it now as it would be too late to get another teacher rec. but i felt it was alright b/c their website said only a core curriculum course and the course i took was (a history class).

one of my teachers is doing the rec. online. i emailed her the instructions and shes doing it but on the paper one i had to check off the i waive my rights to the rec. do i need to do that for the online one and if so how do i do it as ive already sent her the link to the rec. page?

Ahhh. I didn't want to do QuestBridge because I felt so under qualified when it came to my SAT scores but now I feel dumb and see that it could be a big advantage to me.

Is it too late to start? Like I already asked my teachers to write recommendations for me but is it too late to tell them about QuestBridge? I know the essays will take time but the application itself is pretty quick.

"Do your parents or guardians own substantial non-cash assets worth more than $10,000?"

what does that mean exactly? could anyone clarify?

Statis, I understood that to be any assets over $10,000 that are not cash such as stocks, bonds, investments, property, etc.

If I have a question I feel can't be answered here, I just email QB directly. It usually takes a few days for them to get back to you but they always do.

Also, I think if the "submit" button has been pressed, it will only go to QB at this point, not the schools. QB forwards our apps to the schools later. I'm sure they understand how nervous we all are, not to mention human ;).

They work Monday-Friday and are on Pacific time so no one will be answering your inquiries on weekends/holidays.

Personally, I am getting close to finishing the app but I have been working on it s-l-o-w-l-y since August. One more 500 word essay and IF I could get one teacher and the guidance counselor moving on those recommendations! Arrrggh! Well, I'm off to finish my essay for National Honor Society (which is due with their application on the 16th!!) Double Arrgghh!!!!

I am trying to work on the Common App as well so I won't have everything at once at the end of October.

umm another question. Will QB consider an application without sufficient test results? I will only have my SAT I taken by october...

AND,when they say we can forward our application as a supplement, do they mean the whole application including our test scores and recommendations??

"Thanks for the quick response. However, the other guy's problem was that he hadn't hit the submit button, but I accidentally did press the application forwarding button. It's not a glitch, just a mistake on my part, so I really really really hope the questbridge guy emails me back saying he can undo it somehow!"

Haha - that guy was actually me. The problem' still there but I'm not worrying about it as long as I can still edit it. Same should go for you

"Also, my family earns about 30k a year, i heard that families with less earnings are more likely to be matched with colleges. how likely are my chances?"

I actually would like to know about this too..

@azalea - Questbridge names finalists, even those who don't have all the tests done, so dont worry about that. That just becomes a problem for the Match Round when colleges have their own testing requirements.

But yeah, having done the CPS thing last year made this round much much easier :)

BTW have you guys gotten your essays edited either by kyledavid or your teachers? I'm only hesitant b/c my essays are so PERSONAL (i mean i guess that's the point) but I can see why it would be fine to show others (now, showing classmates, other than friends, is a different story)

You're welcome Ramin325 - hope it is on it's way to getting worked out! ;)

laststopforme - I sent one 500 word essay to KyleDavid. He is a tremendous help to all of us here - thanks Kyle!! - but it takes time to wade through all the essays we are sending him. (and I'm SURE he has a life! LOL Especially since he made Stanford through QB last year!).

I have a favorite Lit teacher (she was the teacher whose recommendation was back to me without one week!!), and plan to run the 800 word essay by her.

For all of you who are just starting your apps, I realize you are trying to wade through pages of the application, but it would be advantageous to both read through the Questbridge website thoroughly first -- QuestBridge National College Match Program -- and try to read back through this thread. Many of your questions have been addressed already and it will spare you waiting for answers, as well as give you a little more insight into the process from our prospective. It really helped me in many ways.

Remember that:

1) It has been pointed out on this thread that applying to QB is advantageous even if you don't match. ALL of our applications will be forwarded to our selected schools even if we don't. We will have the distinction of having gone through the QB process. I believe that many more QB applicants are accepted through the RD than the match.

2) Questbridge students are considered with a family yearly income of something like $60,000-$65,000. With tuition, boarding, books and fees a yearly amount of about $50,000 is what regular paying students require. If you think about it, say $30,000 is not a high income. Also, they take into consideration circumstances in your family life as well.

Hope this helps until our all exaulted leader Kyle returns! LOL :)

From 4th House - Post #484 - page 33 on this thread:

Zester:

Yes, you are applying to Questbridge, not to a college, per se. If QB names you a finalist, you then apply to their partner colleges.

That being said, the Match portion of QB is a type of Early program. The contracts you sign when you apply ED at most colleges state that you are not also applying to any other ED program. Thus, if you did ED AND Questbridge Match, you would be in breach of contract.

I can already anticipate your next question ... what if you applied to QB, were named a finalist, and indicated that you did not want to participate in the Match (early) program? The answer to that is ... I have no idea. Maybe it's a loophole; maybe it's not.
