I'm not sure if this'll make anyone feel better about next Friday (it's kind of common sense, but it confirmed something for me), but I was at Williams this weekend and the admissions officer in charge of QuestBridge there told me that they're picking more Finalists (naturally, because they had more applicants -- the program is growing). So, I guess we at least don't have to worry about the fact that there are more applicants...they're just going to choose more Finalists from the larger applicant pool. :-)

^ Was that the Windows on Williams program? I wanted to go but I had a conflict at the last minute :( How was it?

EDIT: and even if they do accept more kids, last year's match rate for Yale is not exactly encouraging: 2% (19 kids / 885)

worse than regular decision...

damn yale

^^Does anyone have an answer to my question?

ambitious:

id say early action.

i have a question, do I have a higher chance of getting in applying early decision to upenn, after becoming finalist and withdrawing QB app, than applying ed to cornell?

@laststopforme: Yes, it was WoW. I'm sorry you couldn't go... I had an incredible time. I met some awesome people, the campus is amazing, and...I don't have time to think of more adjectives but overall it was just unbelievable.

And yeah, the match rates aren't particularly comforting. I was just telling everyone that hey, at least there's not a lesser chance of being a Finalist just because there are more applicants. :-)

@cc3c: I really don't think anyone can definitively answer that for you. I'm not sure if being a Finalist and pulling out of the match makes any kind of difference to the partner schools.

If a QB applicant is named a finalist and is then admittted to a non-binding participant school, is that admission open-ended until accepted by the applicant or until the applicant accepts admission at another school through the regular decision process?

bopbob, for the non-binding College Match schools the students selected don't have to let the school know whether they're accepting or declining the admissions offer until the regular decision date for all college admissions (I think that usually is May 1st). So, students know they have an assured spot at a great school, but can go ahead and see what other acceptances they may receive before making a final decision.

There is a thread on the Facebook group for QB detailing what schools everyone has ranked and it seems almost like EVERYONE has ranked Yale, Princeton, blah blah blah. I don't get it, honestly. It's almost as if many of the QB applicants I have seen are completely neglecting the FINE liberal arts schools that have partnered with QB. That explains the 2% acceptance rate...

2blue

Thanks so much. That completely clears it up for me.

3 days guyss (sats)
4 days (finalists)

^5 days ACTS (and Homecoming)

question

if (hopefully) i get accepted as a finalist, can i opt out of the match by not sending in any of the apps by november 3?

if not how can i opt out of the match b/c i realized i dont really wanna get matched now? id rather have a shot at all of the schools.

fastdry:

good question. i think im going to wait til im a finalist (hopefully) to worry about all that tho

Haha cc3c, I wish I could be as confident as you...

fastdry: you can just email them and withdraw your app.

Can anyone tell me how QB will notify the applicants of their finalist status - by phone, email or snail mail? TIA.

MattsMomFl, last year finalist's were notified on their "My Locker" page with a big FINALIST printed in red I believe. I think there was also an e-mail telling them to submit materials ASAP to the schools they ranked for the match round. If you are a "match" you get a phone call. We were waiting and watching the caller ID for a call from the area code for QB in CA, but the staffer that called my D used her cell from another state. I almost didn't answer thinking it was a telemarketer!

Thanks GAMom....we're getting pretty excited here :)
